Default 02 Z06, Convert, Wait for 03 Aniversary Model or C6??

OK Guys, Kinda made up my mind to, yes get a new Vette. Just not sure if I should get an ZO6, Convert, wait for Aniversary model in 03 or C6 arrival, whenever that is?? I know, these are really tough decisions and I'm counting on you guys for some direction here. I also know if I do get a C5 or C6, the requirement is not to wave to fellow Vetters. But I'll change all of that. :seeya (Just kiddin C5 owners.) And oh yea I'll have to move to the C5/6 Forum too. What do ya think?? L8TER, Paul.

I think if you drive EITHER a new C5 vert or a Z06, you might not wait for next year :D

Hard to go wrong with those choices.

A nice convertible would be my choice. Metallic red II with the light oak interior.

Also if anyone would like to give me 50k so I can buy one for me let me know. I would just about die for one. Thanks in advance.

I would get the Z06 as a new car... love that coupe shape...

If I did get a convertable I would get one of the older cars C1, C2, C3... better for parade duty.

Wait for a C6 - nope, you can't predict when your time will come... don't wait.

I have had "thoughts" about buying a 50th anniversary edition vette, whatever it is going to be... we don't really know yet, do we? The main reason for these thoughts are because our original date of birth (me and corvette) are very close, so I thought it would be cool if we could all celebrate our 50th birthdays together. Unfortunately, the corvette birthday party is going to be too crowded for me, and I refuse to wait in line or pay a premium for an anniversary edition that will likely be as popular as the previous anniversary editions! Basically, the majority say get it now. Nitrovette, Your 73 looks real nice. that is the exact color I had in mind. If convert... electron blue ext. red Int. white top. Hows about that for patriotic!! This is just in the beginning stages at this point. It's like AC said....once C5 is test drivin, I may not want to wait for next year!! L8TER, Paul.

Vettesic,

I just got a Z06 a month ago and absolutely love it! The car is so solid and tight. To save weight, they use much less insulation and thinner window glass so road noise is higher than standard Vettes. But the exhaust note is, in my opinion, PERFECT. The power is absolutely incredible. The six speed is great, so much less clutch effort than the L88. The handling is nothing less than phenomenal. The car is so easy to drive around town you would think you were driving a wide ratio 4 speed L48 with 4.11 gears, and power everything. Extremely smooth and quiet! Then when the mood strikes you, it will truly breath fire!! You would have to spend ~$250,000 plus to get anything with only marginally more all-around performance. Such a difference would only be on paper allowing a decent Z06 driver to better even the super exotic machinery.

I will say that the many (not all) of the guys on the Z06 forum would fit right in with the Porsche forum personality wise - taking their cars a little too seriously for my tastes. Mopar enthusiasts, unless yours is a Viper, don't even go there! This forum is by far the best of the bunch, IM(notso)HO.

I will be using it as my daily driver. Hopefully for many, many years. The majority of the 2000 miles put on it this last month have been in the rain! Still hard not to grin when behind the wheel. I would agree with others, why wait?

Chuck

I agree with EVERYTHING Chuck states above!! I love the FRC body lines and mine is much Chuck's but on a scaled down level since it's not a Z06, but it still can cruise like a Caddy or haul azz. Bravo for the 6-speed and Z51. The car is just awesome. I'm almost ashamed to admit it but I haven't even taken the cover off my Vert since I bought the C5 :(

If you have the cash JUMP on the Z06!!!! There are also more than a few sweet deals on 2001 Z's in the "C5s For Sale" forum. You will not regret getting one

WOW, with that kind of endorsement from Chuck and Cajun, GM need not pay for advertisements!! You guys speak from first hand knowledge. The local Chevy dealer is getting an black on black 01 Z0 that the deal fell through a couple times on and possibly 0% interest. That was about a month ago and I'm not sure if it's still available. I was on the fence then so I might have lost that one. When I do deciede, you know I'll post pics of new baby. Not sure about using her for a driver though. Now what to do with Shark? A two Vette guy :yesnod: L8TER, Paul.

If money is not an issue, and you want shear performance, get the 02 Z06. If money is an issue at all, I'd suggest looking at a used one owner 1999 or 2000 convertible. Unfortunately, there are C5 owners out there that need out from under a huge payment and they'll take too much of a hit trading their car in or it's an extra car that needs to go. Either way, if you have the money and your patient, you could pick up a low mileage C5 for around $30,000.

And if that opportunity doesn't present itself in the next 3-4 months, then maybe you'll have more info on the 03 and then you could debate an 02 still on the lot or an 03 for a premium. If you got the $$$$, the ball is in your court and you can always make a better offer! :D :D

An 01 black on black Z06 sounds pretty cool too! Again, you can low-ball the dealer, they may want to move the car!

Sure wish I was in your shoes!!!! I have a fountain to build (12' dia. concrete pool on a slope), a garage to furnish (custom cabinets, tools etc.), custom cabinets to design and install in the laundry room and my wife only works one night a week now so she can stay home with our baby. :) I've already started dropping hints that if she isn't pregnant with #2 in the next 12 months, we ought to get rid of our 91 prelude and get a (me) used C5! :D :D The thought of two Vettes in the garage for me and an Accord for her kinda pissed her off, but she'll come around.

Good luck and check out http://www.kellybluebook.com to get the trade in value of a used one.
