Raised bog block exhaust ports. Custom headers?
Is anybody running big block heads with raised exhaust ports in a C3? Are there any off-the-shelf headers that will fit, or is this custom territory?

Re: Raised bog block exhaust ports. Custom headers? (Flareside)
Joe,
Hooker states in their catalog that their side mount headers will not work with Edelbrock heads. I believe that these have a raised exhaust port. There is no mention of a fit problem with their under car Super Comps. If no one else replies it might be worth contacting the head manufacturer directly.
John.

Maybe the victors. The performer heads I have have regular exhaust ports and work fine with my Hooker supercomp under car headers.

Re: Raised bog block exhaust ports. Custom headers? (zwede)
I am running Sanderson shortys that fit, but not well - as a mater of fact I am pulling the driver's side again today for more bashing. I believe hooker makes a sidemount header with 2 1/8" primarys for raised port heads. It is special order and costs over $1K uncoated.

Stahl makes side pipe headers for raised port heads.
http://www.stahlheaders.com/Frame%20New%20Drag.htm
Click on the BB Chevy tab and look at # 215.
I have no first hand experience w/ Stahl headers. Mine are custom. I've never run any other headers w/ the Brodix heads (raised exhaust ports) so I can't comment on how well a standard header will fit a raised port head.
Good luck,
Mark

I have Stahl's on my 502 71. I can tell you that they are a bear to install. Lot's of flange grinding to clear the lower head bolts, and even had to cut a blister in my A/C box to clear the passenger side header. Number three spark plug is almost impossible to change.

Has anyone had good luck with BBC sidemount headers for raised port heads? I am looking to replace my shorties.

Thanks for the info guys, although it's not exactly what I wanted to hear :(
I have undercar exhaust, and want to keep it, so does that mean that I can't use raised port heads? I guess I can go with GM or Edelbrock rectangular port heads with standard ports, but I know I'll be leaving some HP on the table. Bummer... :cry
