Need ID help for R&P
I have an old 1978 rear end that I was given many years ago out of a '78 I believe. I can't see the stampings in the housing and it's all apart. The ring gear bolts backed out and sheared in the housing so the entire assembly was replaced back in the early 80's. The gears look good - no chips, cracks, etc that I can see. I want to ID the numbers on the R&P to see what ratio it is. I thought it was a 3.70 but really don't recall. At one time there was a post about the number of teeth per R&P to determine ratio does anyone recall it?
Thanks,
Gary

Re: Need ID help for R&P (Ganey)
Thanks once again for your help Ganey, it turned out to be a 3.36 ratio. 37/11 teeth.

Re: Need ID help for R&P (gtr1999)
Another question, this gear set looks ok but I have to get it magnafluxed to check for cracks, did GM have any problems with the gear sets or bolts in the 77-79 rears back then? I'm wondering if the original failure of the ring gear bolts backing out and hitting the housing was a problem then or just in this case?
Thanks,
Gary
