Tim:
I voted for no :D, because this project feels like it will never be complete. Seriously though, I would almost put money on it that I will have the big block in the 'Vette come spring time.

I've taken Chuck's (Harmon) advice to a certain extent. He told me to tone the performance down a little bit and get the big block in the car so I can enjoy it. He told me not to make the same mistake that both he and Steve(Merlin) made.

Spring time *fingers crossed* :flag

I predict Bence will finish the project by spring of '02.........but will wreck the car backing out of the driveway. Regards

in this particular incident, betting may not be the wiesest of decisions. What if benice is running short of time, and rushes and overlooks things so he can make an extra $100....that could be catastrophic in the end. Seems I'd rather see him have it done in the summer, then hurt his car because he rushed and forgot to check the torque on some bolts.

Just my .02

In a related story, I gambled for my first time the other day, won $150 from $20 at a 5 card duces wild machine(kept getting 5 of a kind at $10 a win, and 1 "4 dueces" at $80 a win, and smaller things around $5 a win)....I gave the money to my dad, it was his $20 afterall, so its not like I was loosing anything..Im not a greedy person. :blueangel: I had it up to $175, but started loosing and stoped at $150, plus it was time to go. Just thought I'd share my good experiance at gambling for the first time...And don't worry, I won't become and adict...It was just a one time thing.

i think thats kind of a bogus thing to even doubt he would finish. Weird post. But its awesome to see someone my age into vettes and i look foward to following his progress. If you ever take that monster for a road trip stop by in Chicago , I wanna hear that big block.

Woe is me... the 18 year old with the small block and daydreams of hydraulic roller cams and high-flow heads...
My ultimate sports car will come true! Just you wait! Mwahahahaha!
Just need to get a nice internship this summer. When I graduate, I'm gonna shoot for a '69 with a ZL-1 block. (Plan on red paint with white stripes, Baldwin-Motion style).

Why not?

I think he will manage it, it just takes time.....

I did the same, it ended up good, but still improving after years......

I didn't vote, but I do enjoy reading some of the answers that I get to vote for. :D I'm sure he'll get it together. At least he's helping the economy by keeping shipping companies in business hauling junky old engine blocks around. JK Bence ;)

It takes time and $$$, and since I am in the same position as bence, I believe he will finish it as well!!!!! I built up some 049 heads 8 months ago, and now I am ready for the 454 shortblock!!!!

Good Luck.

The proof's in the pudding. The stat's don't look good for first time engine builders. Those that learn from their mistakes will be better for it. We'll see.

BTW, his new engine stats look very close to what I have done to my LS-5. It will run well if it stays together.

Bence, don't listen to the negative guys. Their personal opinions on your engine and abilities should be kept just that, personal. Everyone's an expert when it's not their time and money. I think you've asked all the right questions an made good decisions (well, except for that cam ;))

Jealousy's an UGLY emotion!

I have all the confidence in the world in Bence. He will have a super working big block. With his talents I think Bence could even get a few more horses out of a Lada :D

Bogus huh? How about we meet up at a 1/4 mile track whenever I get the engine built...then we'll see just how "bogus" it is when I blow your doors off by 20+ car lengths...that's what I have to say to your "bogus". :yesnod: It has become evident to me that you do not like me (which is all fine and well). I believe a while back I remember you saying that in the spring time of 2001 I would have my 'Vette wrapped around a tree. I for the life of me can't think of anything I've ever done to you to make you dislike me...but I haven't lost any sleep over it. This thread was clearly posted with the intention to poke fun at me (in one way or another).

Ganey:
The real question is how long will it run?
This is a question I will not be able to answer. My uncle is helping me with my rebuild so I will have some assistance. Unfortunetly, part of learning how to build engines is breaking stuff. You learn as you go, by reading as much as possible and learning from other people's experiences I hope to cut back on most of the commonly made mistakes.

I thank those of you who have given me POSITIVE incouragement....to those of you who have posted negative comments, that just gives me even more incouragement to get this engine built! Happy Holidays.

No you are wrong I do like you.
You remind me of a couple of friends that are younger than me and I give them hell all the time.
One of them grew up to be the high school mechanics teacher with a master degree. He has a 79 malibu drag car as a class project that they ran last year and ran good.
Now the other guy with a 69 camaro has a 406 roller motor,5000 stall,488 gears and NO2,he is still a dip poopie.
I am declining your racing offer,I don't even drive my vette to the track it is a cruise nite,Sunday driver.
I just sold my Big block 71 Cutlass that would pull the drivers wheel off the ground and run mid 7s in the 1/8 so I have nothing to race with,so you can be faster at the track thats OK.
Don't get mad, And yes i am poking fun at you.

Tim: This has been a unique and fun topic ( and poll) and I think everybody knew that harmless "poking fun" was all that was intended.
Bence: I always enjoy reading your posts and this topic has kind of made you a celebrity on the forum.

After all, this forum is for sharing ideas, getting help, entertainment and making friends. Regards

PS: -Bence, love your car!, Tim, love your car and Dobie!
