Crate Engine Recomendations?
I am considering going with a crate engine and storing my matching numbers engine which needs a rebuild. I'm assuming that it would be best to stay with a big block if I can afford it. I'm hoping to find something in the 400-500HP range. The HO502 seems like a good engine, but it would require a different
intake manifold than comes with the engine. How much would I be spending on
accesories to complete the install: headers, intake, carb, ignition system, etc.
Any tips from someone who has already done this are greatly appreciated!

Re: Crate Engine Recomendations? (Pat 69BigBlock)
I think you can pick up a 496 cid 500 HP stroker motor for about 5K. I’m not sure what the 502’s cost. These are the way to go if you don’t want to build your own.
Personally I think these motors are a bit too generic. I’d opt to stroke a BB, install aluminum heads or fully ported cast heads, lightweight pistons, and custom grind cam myself. You’d come out with 100+ HP over the create motor and it would probably cost the same.
