Default Need Help. Fan hitting fan shroud

I was taking the radiator out and when I put everything back together, the fan hits the fan shroud every couple of seconds. It barly hits it so I'm close to stopping it but everytime I try and change the position it gets worse. Any ideas?

What year of car is it? Are your motor mounts in good shape?

I had the same problem last year. In my case, the fan shroud, although it's supposed to be tucked into the lip of the radiator support clips, had to be moved down a little bit. I had to work it and tweak it for a while but got by all summer with no more occurences.

Never really did figure out why. I hadn't removed the radiator support. I did put in new motor mounts but that should have raised the engine I would have thought. I even tried the shims on the motor mounts but that only helped a little.

Its a 74.
I need to look at how I reinstalled the fan shroud. I might have slid it outside instead of inside.

BTW, I messed with and it doesn't hit it at idle. Now it only hits it at about 2000RPM. I'm getting closer.

Maybe by using shims or washers you can move the shroud to a position where it clears. I would think moving it rearward would put the fan in a slightly larger hole.

If the problem only occurs when you are accelerating, then you have a broken motor mount. I had that problem last year after I got my new engine.
