Default Machine Shop in Atlanta Area?

Looking at a valve job and poss. engine rebuild on my 427 numbers matching block. Will know more about engine internals tomorrow. Any recommendations for a good local machine shop?

Yes. Garry Grimes at Grimes Automotive Machine in Alpharetta. 770-475-5272. Not the cheapest but very thorough and does the job once and right. He just rebuilt my 427 and I am very happy (the engine is very powerful). He has a full dyno room, etc.

Other than being a customer, I have no affiliation, etc.

Can you give me more info on what they did on your 427 and approximate costs?

I had the Intake manifold repaired, a new carburetor installed, and a complete engine rebuild, including new roller cam, with new lifters, and full roller rockers. Brand new valves installed, with the accompanying head work, block was align honed, and cylinder bores were honed, new cam, rod and main bearings. Engine dynoed and tuned. Approximate cost $4,700 - $5,000.

What were your dyno figures? Was your engine a L36 like mine?

I have an L36, oval port, stock 10.25:1 compression. I now have 2.19 intake valves and 1.88? exhaust valves. The engine dynoed at 450 hp at 5500 rpm and 500lb ft of torque at 2,700 rpm. We know the engine is making a lot more horsepower now because in chasing down a driveability issue, it turns out the carburetor was bad and the stock air cleaner assembly was too restrictive for the engine's air consumption requirements. The car now runs SIGNIFICANTLY better and faster with the new carb and air cleaner and I suspect is putting out over 470hp.

Pat 69Bigblock, email me and I will send you my telephone number if you want to discuss further.
