Gawd...there's nothing like...
SCREAMING across the ground at 500' AGL and 500 KCAS and dropping some bombs!!! :reddevil
Ahhhhh...I love the Air Force! And when I get my pictures developed, I'll post 'em. If you didn't catch my much earlier post, I got to "tag along" in the backseat of an F-16D on a four-ship ground attack training mission. What a rush. (Shh...don't tell anyone, but I got to fly the legs in to the initial point, when we dropped to 500'.)
Now, I can't wait to get back to school and drive my Vette around again (she's parked up there, while I'm home on leave). :smash:

Any chance you can hook up a ground pounding army guy with a ride like that?
I'll bet that was a total rush!

i have read, that when you get back, you will still find the vette fast, because fast in the air is one thing but fast on the ground is a totaly different one, you can watch the bushes go by on the ground, in the air you can watch clouds... makes it feel slow, but on the ground fast... all about preception
Great to hear you are having fun... thank you for serving this great country of ours :flag

Rainman,
You are making me jealous man. I want to get back to the cockpit.
I am spending a year out at War College and I can't wait to get back to some good flying. Lowest we can go in the EA-6B is 500' now but I have spent some time down at 200' in both EA-6B's and A-6E's. Definitely pucker factor territory at that altitude.
What outfit did you get a ride with if I may be so bold as too ask? Presume you are going for a pilot slot when you graduate.
Don't want to steal your thunder but here are some old Intruder pics to wet the appetite. BTW: Those are bushes, not trees in the first pic.

At 500' and nearly 600mph, THAT'S FAST!!
Steve,
Many years ago I read "The Flight of the Intruder" Great book. I would sure have loved to fly in one of those!

Re: Gawd...there's nothing like... (rainman69)
Hey Rainman, I am sure I am out of my league even commenting here, but I used to be an F16 Crew Chief for quite a few years. I loved that jet. Really made me wish I had finished college and could have been in the cockpit, instead of launching them out on the ground!
But, it was nice to be part of the F16 program anyway.

Lt1er,
You at NSAWC now or what? Wanted the F-14 transition when A-6E went away so Navy sent me to Prowler land. Good thing about the Intruder was no back seat at the boat, bad thing about the Prowler is absolutely no view from the back seat.
Water.....water.....water....steel....TR AP!
Rainman, if you're lucky, you might get to come fly the Navy way at Whidbey. We have a decent sized Air Force contingent in the Prowler community send we provide the land based EW now. Just kidding. :jester
My first choice for a AF ride would be the F-15E. Fast, deadly both air-to-air and air-to-ground plus you got someone to talk to on the long flights. :yesnod:

Stave, nice pictures.
I don't know about that whole carrier thing...there's something inherently wrong with landing on something that is moving in three dimensions and is really short. (j/k)

Tell you what, the AF and the Navy could DOUBLE their budgets without raising taxes any.....simple....just give rides in the dummy seat....off carriers and such....there would be guys and gals lined up around the world for the experience....of ALL ages....now figger about a grand for fuel, and what another grand for chip-in on flight maintanance....show a profit big enough.....write the flight time off as training for all people involved...
what the hell they being paid anyway....
GENE   :D :D

Rainman, thankyou to you and all of your mates from us in Canada :flag . Got room for a passenger, never flew but played a lot of rugby including against both the Army and Marine sides. Come home safe and hopefully some of us Cdn.s can meet up this summer with you all.
