Default Distributor Wire Question

Distributor Wire Question:

I need to buy some distributor wires for our ’69 SBC. Running MSD6 ignition, 10.3 compression, keeping shrouds, and would like factory made up wires, not the ones I have to do myself.

What are you using? Any recommendations out there for brands or part numbers????

Thanks in advance,

George

MSD makes some real good 8.5mm wires, only 50 ohms per foot. Check the Summit catalog.

I use the 8.8 mil wires from Taylor. There great and came in RED, (the same color as car). You can purchase from Summitt or Jegs.

I, like the other forum members, assume you are talking about new spark plug wires, never heard them called distributor wires before, must be a west coast thing.

Tipically, you can obtain a better fit by purchasing the ones you cut and fit yourself, to your specific application. I never had a lot of luck with the 'pre-fitted' style, which always seem to be a compromised size, so manufacturer can sell one type for multiple applications.

Thanks for the reply John.

Maybe they are called spark plug wires. I lead a sheltered life. They do however START at the distributor. They only end at the plugs. I had a 50-50 chance.

I was thinking Vette specific. I do not know if any other Chevrolet that had the spark plug wires wrap down below the block as they did in 60’s and on our '69. Otherwise I also would worry about the one-size fits all thing.

Just an update.

Put my spark plug wires in our ’69 small block last night. Ran them the long way, down the sides and through the boomerangs. 8.5 mm Jacobs black 4009893. Just fine in length. A bit larger in diameter. Pulled 7mm wires out. Will rework clips and grommets to fit.

Looked but could not find Taylor or MSD in Vette specific pre-made.

Thanks to all for the help and advice.

George
