Which way to route: top or from bottom as stock?????

Which way to route: top or from bottom as stock?????
Damn chrome! Geeze - :boxing I'm tearing the car down to 'upgrade' the top end... after wrestling with the chrome shrouding over the spark plug wires... I'd like to know the best choice for spark plug wire routing after I get the heads and headers on....
- do I leave the wires going down the back of the motor, the forward ones
routing underneath along the block in the shroud, then out between the
mount bolts to the plugs
- or do I rerout and have the wires come along the valve cover and down to
the plugs?
Ideas?
What I'm doing:
Dart Iron Eagle Heads (200cc intake runners, 64cc chambers)
Scorpion 1.6 roller rockers :D
Ceramic coated Dynomax headers
Edelbrock Performer AIRGAP manifold
Carb? not sure - get conflicting inputs whether to go 600cfm or 750cfm
(I have forged flat-top pistons and a spiffy cam too).
Have not picked out new valve covers either - need taller ones to fit over the suite roller rockers.
Thanks & Happy New Year,
Jim

I routed mine on my stingray using the existing chrome pieces at the back of the engine down under the headers to keep a cleaner look and to help with the sterio. However, on my pro-street cutlass I have the wires routed along the bottom of the valve covers and then down to the spark plugs. Both ways look good, but on the vette I was trying to keep more of a "factory" type look to the car even though it is pretty heavily modified.

Jim:
Same problem with headers, in fact I cannot even figure how to get all the shrouds back on.
Years ago I found a set of SB wires that came with braded wraps just like the big blocks had. I put aside the drop down chrome covers on both sides of the distributor box and ran the wires along side the valve covers. Hooked up ground straps. Whole thing looked great, worked well and looked in-a-way factory.
BTW what type and brand wires are you running; this is my project on our rebuild in the next few weeks.

Howdy 999 - I was actually not even thinking about replacing the plug wires... I might change my mind as it would be much easier now than later.... Not sure what's on there right now however - guess that tells me something.
I really don't car about the stereo - too much other noise anyway :)
Jim.

I put these on for the cam break in and like how they run and drop down the the plugs. Have good clearance from the pipes.

IMO, up top in some neat arrangement is much better than down under...for one thing, grease/heat/oil is much less, moisture dries out faster, and wires are more accessable for work with/on.....
that stereo buzz is only on AM radio, and even FM, who listens to the RADIO in a car anymore...CD's shouldn't have much problem....

I think "under" makes for a tidier engine compartment :yesnod:

Thanks Jenny, that's what I thought when I saw them. GM performance part pieces from Scoggin Dickey parts center...www.sdpc2000.com/default.htm

Yellow 72 - I see you have breather caps on each valve cover - does that mean no more pcv and no more hose from valve cover to air cleaner? The hose from the vacuum port to the PCV then went somewhere else (I forget). You just remove it all? Curious.
I've not thought about these parts yet - but I'll need to as I'll have the new heads on and roller rockers secure by end of Friday I hope.... old covers will not fit!
I have a vacuum question also on the electronic valve that was connected to the vacuum advance and other places - maybe I'll do another post on that when I', ready...

Re: Which way to route: top or from bottom as stock????? (jimbr)
jimbr, the rocker covers come with no provisions for breathers or pcv.
I wanted breathers on both covers so I drilled the intake for the pcv grommet and as you can see in the pic, and ran it straight off the vacuum port in the manifold.
I also used a lifter valley baffle to keep the direct oil splash from the pcv.
It works well. A lot of late model motors have the pcv installed in the intake so it'e nothing new.
