Opinions Please:Whats Wrong or Right with this
I got a dialback timing light for Christmas and did some checking of my curve. First of all the car runs very well (see signature) and gets decent mileage, etc. but this curve seems jacked.
Initial: 18 degrees @2500 rpm: 27 degrees As rpms go further up the advance goes up but doesn't peak until about 4000 rpms: 40 degrees, I only want 34 degrees total. I have an adjustable vacuum advance set at 17 degrees so I get about 44 at cruise, 2000 rpms with advance hooked up. My concern is with the 9 degrees of mechanical at 2500 rpms and the SLOOOOOOW curve. Its a Summit HEI I've had for several years. Should I look into correcting this or leave well enough alone?? I appreciate any and all opinions, thanks.

I"d set the initial at 12 and make sure everything else is operating, and leave it,....or is you want, put in one lighter spring,.....sounds to me like initial is a bit much at 18.....hard cranking especially when hot....

When you say initial you should be at idle before any mech adv. starts. So at 900 rpm set it at 12.
forget all the settings. Your loosing allot of driving performance and mileage. Get it recurved for what ever you want your total to be at 3000 rpm with the vacuum adv. off

I would pull the distributor out and head for the closest guy with a dist. machine. I had mine setup and it works great. You can do this on the car but much better on a machine. Your curve sounds a little slow. Mine is all in by about 2500 rpm. Never rattles and runs great. Mine is set at about 12 to 14 at 900 rpm. Does not idle well below this rpm. I have 36 total with another 12 degrees vacuum.
