Yes, they are legal in Texas. Legal in all U.S. except Virginia. Have one of the original Escorts I bought new & some others. Have several that I use. Just interested in those that people don't need. Sounds good.

I drive a FORD so a radar detector is useless for me!Just kidding.I "somewhere" have an ancient detector that should be in a museum .I will send it to you if you want.
I have heard that running a Vertex style Magneto on the street plays havoc with police radar. Is there any truth to that?

Illegal in DC too. My dad got a passport 8500 over the summer and is REALLY happy with it.

I have a Bell and have always had good luck with them. Another forum member has some high end model about $400. It seems to me that it's a Uniden and when he went to a high powered Crane msd box it always goes off on laser below 3000 rpm when it's multi sparking. So we tested my Bell and it must be sheilded better because it will only go off when placed lower on the passenger window nearer to the CRane MSD

Cheers Ganey We haven't talked in so long. Time just fly's by.

There is no truth to mags interfearing with radar. They do put out a massive electromagnetic field. Thats why the pictures from on the top fuel wing struts go goofy during the run. The reason I know is sprint car teams use speed guns to determine speeds at various points around the track so they can figure out optimal gearing.

They use monster mags. and I've never failed to get a read out on any car.

Cheers George
I would not expect a mag. to interfere w/ radar however if mountainmotor brings something up ...
Nobody gets any long chatty e-mail from me.
