Any Real use for the By-Pass Hose, I went through Hell Finding-one
After replacing my leaky by-pass hose, I questioned is it realy needed.

I ran my engine with it and with out ...and didn't see a noticeable differance :yesnod: Found mine at "Advance" auto parts stock item :cool:

Small 90 degree hose from the top of the water pump to the intake manifold.

I got one for my 68 bigblock at Napa. It looked exactly like the one I replaced. MJ

It's a big block thing. small blocks have a third hole on the drivers side of the waterpump hole.
And YES the Bypass hose is needed unless you drill your thermostat. See without a bypass when the thermostat is closed there is no water flow through the engine. This means the engine must heat the thermostat by convection untill it opens and water starts to flow....
