Default Santa brought my roll cage car back today!

I got my roll caged car back. I'm mixed. it's hard to get in and out off. No swing outs. Vision is cut down. I used to always look over my left shoulder to change lanes and the tall wide head rest and bars block it. So I have a bad blind spot.

The seat in the lowest back position has my helmet nearly touching the roof. It's a plus to see forward over the long nose now.

The drive home was loud. All the rear carpet and sound material had to be stripped out. You can hear all the suspention and brakes working. the three inch exhaust with box SS packing rattles the car. I slides through on ramp turns differently. So I don't know if it's alignment change or lack of any frame flex.

The big thing is - and I should have been on top of it when the shop was making decisions for me.

He put a cross bar nearly in the middle behind the seats. So no more big beer cooler fits in back.

:(

 To all for a good 2002

Haven't been following any threads on this but sounds like your building something nasty.
Take care & merry xmas.

Dude, its a race car, that is how it is going to be. I am sure you knew this before you started the project. What are the rest of the details on the car? I missed that too.

Gkull,

If it is anything like my old Camaro then good luck. I can't say I miss climbing over this mess at all.

gkull: Sounds like there's a price to pay for a cage like that, but DAMN it has to be cool. I still think you have one of the nicest rides on the Forum.

You might think about removing the headliner if you currently have the fiberglass tops for an increase in headroom. Tilt and teliscoping steering column will help you get in and out. Now you know why the racers use a quick release wheel. Can't help with the cooler. I always make my wife haul it in the minivan. All that sloshing drives me nuts.

george,
After reading the following, I hope your helmet is below the "roll cage"

"The seat in the lowest back position has my helmet nearly touching the roof. It's a plus to see forward over the long nose now."

Redvetracr - I brought that up when I went to pick it up. I said if you took a straight edge with where the bars are now. My helmet would touch the straight edge when I sit back and fully up. I don't like the nearly straight up seat design. So among other changes. I'm going to try reclining the seat 10-15 more degrees. Which will bring my line of site and head lower.

79toy - I considered removing the head liner on the T-tops before installation. But years ago I had them out for one reason or another and i found it to make the interior much noiser from wind blast. They don't seem like much, but they do sound isolate the flexy tops.

I'm a fan of those little convex mirrors. They make lane-changing a breeze.

George I found that I too lost some rear vision from the main hoop looking from the rear view mirror even with my bar VERY close to the roof. Something I just had to get used to if I'm going to have a rollbar in my car. Be sure you can install/ remove your battery with the crossbar in it's present position ;) . Glad to hear it's all done.

Hey GKull, here is something that might help you out to get more room for your helmet:
It is also lighter than stock T-tops, less weight= :chevy
More info can be found here: www.astrotops.com
