Default 1970 or 1969 engine in early 1960 pick up truck

Today me and my uncle went to the junkyeard and came to a orange 1960's truck. the hood was open so we looked at it. my uncle thought it was a corvette engine so we got the numbers in the back and the was some numbers in the from on the right side. the numbers in the back read 3970010. i went on the internet and found out that it is a 1969 or 1970 350 engine. the numbers in the front are k0424td. i can't find anything on the internet telling what those numbers mean. if anyone knows where and what those numbers mean i would be more then happy if u could tell me. Thank-You ever much and a Merry Christmas.

3970010 is a pretty generic block number. It was used starting in 1969 I believe (or was it 1970) and was used until the late 70s or early 80s. That number alone doesn't narrow things down any more than saying it has a small block chevy in it. The block can be 2 bolt or 4 bolt as well.

As for the other numbers, you'll have to wait for an engine guru to come in and tell you what those mean. I'll do a look to see what I can find, but no promises :)

I thought the last 3 digits being 010 meant it was a 4 bolt block.

Merry Xmas

Nope. Here's a Camaro site that has some good info on casting numbers. I'm looking for the suffix numbers now....

Looking here: http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/spcode7.html "TD" means it was a teuck engine of some sort. There should be an additional digit.

Ok...now I need to go re-check the engine in the Vette since I have this page handy :)

Got it. Mine is also a 3970010 block with a code of: V0412TDB
V = Flint
Built April 12th
TDB = 1980 C-10 & 1500 block.
Not original by any means but I knew that already :)

Not to disagree entirely ddecart , but my source is HP books small block chevy rebuild , which lists the 3970010 block as being built between '68 - '76 for trucks & high performance applications with 4 bolt mains.
