kicks back when tryin to start
interesting problem today, when i went to start her up it would turn over fine but when i stop cranking it kicks back and blows a little smoke out of the carb....any clues as to what this might be?....also it only seems like it get one spark when i let off from cranking the engine...i had a smoking wire from what seemed to be the colunm yesterday and im assuming these 2 are related.grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...what should i start lookin for?

Hard to see any relationship off hand, but kickback/smoke/fire through carb, is indicative of timing, and that in turn indicates a timing chain maybe skipped a tooth.....exact symptoms....

I think the fuel pump hole can give you a view to the chain, you can eyball its looseness anyway.
Your ignition timing could have changed but unless you adjusted it recently this is rare for it to slip by itself.

Check your power feeds to the ignition coil. There are two wires. One which feeds voltage while cranking and another while running. It sounds as though your secondary ignition circuit is not receiving power.
