Re: Losing LOTS of juice.. (spiru)
I personally do not know how to test them. I usually take the car to Auto Zone and they test it for me with their equipment.
How quick of loss do you have?

Re: Losing LOTS of juice.. (BLT-71)
If I start it every day, there isn't any problems, but 2 days or longer it won't have enough power to even crank over.

Can you give us some more info on what is happening, how long does it take to discharge, what is your amp meter reading while running and so on. Here is a link to the electrical maunual for a 78 that another forum member has posted.

Pull the fuse that runs you radio, courtesy lights, ect. and see if the problem goes away. These all have constant access to the battery. If it does, you can start looking at accessories on that fuse circuit. could be a place to start. lou

Had the same Problem on my 81 and it turned out to be the damn little lights on the Vanity Mirror on the Sun Visor. Popped the bulbs out Solved that problem.

Re: Losing LOTS of juice.. (spiru)
I just solved that problem a couple of weeks ago on my 82. It was the drivers side door switch. It would not leave the dome light on, but it was draining the battery in about two days. I got lucky cause I very faintly heard the door buzzer while reaching in through the window (doors closed) to plug in the battery charger.
I would pull the accessory fuse and see what happens. I'll bet it puts you on the trail.
Good luck!

Only 2 things I have ever seen cause this:
Delay box for interior lights.
Faulty interior bulb that wouldn't light, but would drain battery.

Re: Losing LOTS of juice.. (pats406nitrovette)
Thanks I got it.
Last week I had my amp meter out and checked the wiper motor while the keys where out and I had a little drain there but not enough to cause what I'm experiencing now.

Re: Losing LOTS of juice.. (spiru)
Two things to do that I can think of. First....if you have an amp meter that you can hook in series with the battery, that will tell you if and how much of a drain you have. Then, with the meter still connected, start pulling fuses as lou said and look at the meter every time you pull one. If you cant find it with a fuse, look at connectors under the hood that do not go to the fuse box. Disconnect them....look at thr meter...and then reconnect. You should be able to find the problem this way, or at least narrow it down alot, that is, if you didnt get a bad battery afterall. It does happen.

Oh. One more thing....(made this mistake once) Make sure all lights are off and the doors are shut and the key is not on. If not, you will see the draw from those sourses too.
