Default Header advice for Big block

I am looking for a good set of headers for my 454 coupe. I want them to be cerama coat, or Jet-hot coated. Have been told that they all need some major modifications to fit, are there any that will just bolt on, or is that wishfull thinking? Thanks for the help.

I honestly don't think there are any "major" modifications that need to be made to the headers. I have heard that one of the primary pipes needs to be :smash: a little bit so as to not hang-up your clutch linkage (not sure if you have a 4 speed or not). I'll be able to tell you this spring whenever I drop the big block in and bolt the Hooker Header side pipes in. I've heard it's a tight fit, but they do fit. I'm sure some other big blockers will chime in.

I have used 2 sets on my 72. The Hedman coated set was an easy fit with dimpling needed to clear the steering box only. Clutch linkage was fine. Hedman was unequal length, 2" primaries,3" collectors.

Upgraded a few years ago to Thorley's which are not bad for mass production. Close to equal length 2.125" primaries, 3.5" collectors. Note that these take more patience to fit and will not clear an AC car firewall on the passenger side.

Stahl makes a very nice set on the custom side or you can build your own. Headers by Ed has the best web site for header tech that I have seen.

I agree with pmazza, whoever put the engine in my car had to :smash: do some smashing to clear THE STEERING BOX ONLY. Let me know if you need some pics, I'll be glad to send them to you.

My hooker super comps went in without any modification, no dimpling and no hammering is a deffinite plus.

I also have Hooker Super Comps on my car. They bolted on with no modifications. Mine are 1 7/8" tubes with 3" collectors.

Jet-Hot coatings will sell you a set of Hooker-Supercomps delivered to your door with their coating done already for $599.00. Order from them, that way you save on having to ship headers to them. They buy from supplier, do their thing and ship to you. Not a bad price actually.
