Default mr. gasket vs. edelbrock (water pumps for zz4)

Several have recommended the edelbrock water pump for my new motor. Jeg's has a chrome one from Mr. Gasket $100 that is nice looking. I was wondering if there is a huge difference. The edelbrock costs $150 and isn't chrome.

I've only ever heard one thing about Mr. Gasket: Don't buy it. I know some people on this forum said they had trouble with mr gasket chrome thermostat housings corroding through. I don't know if this is just coincidence but I've never heard anybody say something good about mr gasket. They seem to have some quality control issues.
If I were making the choice I'd go with the Edelbrock based on reputation. My thoughts about saving money in the short term has always been, ahh, it's the 'vette, go all out. I believe Edelbrock makes a polished aluminum pump for around $200. Of course these are the words of a raving lunatic obsessed with pouring money into his Corvette, but I think it's best to buy something once and forget about it.

andre77,

I would recomend a Stewart water pump, that's what I'm running in my ZZ4 no cooling problems.... http://www.stewartcomponents.com

Check out their website, they have a veriety of cast iron, aluminum, polished aluminum pumps.

Is the Edelbrock aluminum? If it is, that would account for the higher price (and much lower weight to go with it.) Chrome pumps are usually made out of iron. From my experience, both companies make quality products.

I went with the Edelbrock Polished Aluminum Victor water pump. Short Style. Looks and works fantastic. Pay a little more and be done with it. :seeya
