Default 68-75 Chrome Mirrors: Can You Fix The Position?

Has anyone successfully fixed their 68 - 75 chrome mirror in a static position so the mirror & frame themself do not move? I am the only one who drives the car, and the original ball-socket joint is beginning to loosen (mostly from the car cover being put on and taken off).

I don't mind buying a new one, but want to "lock" the position.

JB Weld? Super Glue? Suggestions? Thanks!

Maybe Loctite would work.

Unbolt the mirror (Allenwrench at the bottom of the arm)

Place the mirrorhead in acetone and let it rest for some hours.

The mirrorglass falls out, cause the glue detoriates with the acetone.

There is a metal clip riveted over the ball from the inner side of the mirror housing.

You can either try to bend it a little or you can add another small sheet metal piece.

Use simple silicone to glue the mirrorglass back in.

Mount the mirror - Voila - done!!!

My mirror was loose and I used "thin super glue to hold it in place. I just positioned the mirror where I wanted it, removed the mirror from the Vette, and then applied the thin super glue to the mirror ball socket and let it set on the desk for ten minutes. It been on the Vette for just over a year and no problems.
