Default My Car is Finally Back Home

After 2 and 1/2 months the Corvette is back home. Below is the story.

Last July 20th I was on the way back from a car show when I lost the right rear tire. I had an alignment done on the car a couple of days before and the shop did not tighten the knock off correctly. I even questioned them before I left the car to see if they knew how. They gave all the right answers so I had them do the work. However as I was leaving the show I could feel that something was wrong. I went to pull onto a side street, and just as I pulled over it came off. I was only doing about 10 mph but it still took out the right rear quarter. It split right along the bonding seam.

The shop that did the work agreed that is was their fault and that they would pay for it. It took them a couple of weeks to decide that they were going to have their insurance pay for it vs. them paying for it themselves. I think the estimate of $2000 convinced them to use their insurance. It then a couple of more weeks to have the insurance company's appraiser look at it and OK the repair. Then more waiting for the check to come. We are now into early September.

The body shop that I used told me that I could drop the car off on Oct. 1. This is a busy shop that does excellent work. Plus they know Corvettes. When I dropped it off I told them that I was in no hurry and that they could take their time. I just wanted the car fixed right. Well, they took me at my word and did take their time.

After what seemed like forever the car was delivered to me by flatbed truck yesterday, and I must say the car looks great. They really did a nice job on it. They even took care of a couple of other areas on the car without charging me to try to make up for taking so long.

Last night I found myself going out to the garage several times just to look at it. I can't believe its back. Five months of not driving it and two and a half of not seeing it.

Right now the sun is shining and the roads are clear. I'm going for a little spin. :)

Sorry no pictures. Hopefully after Tuesday I'll be able to post some.

John.

Reminds me of the time I took a CJ-5 into one of those oil change places and the guy put the wrong filter on it.
Lent the car to a buddy who took it to Tahoe and all of the oil leaked out. By the time he figured out what was going on...the engine had seized.
I had the Jeep towed back to the oil change joint ($450.00) and without hesitation they admitted their mistake.
Two weeks later I had a brand new dealer installed 6-cylinder in the Jeep. :)
Needless to say that was the last time anyone changed the oil in any of my cars.

This is a good feeling having the car back isn´t it?

I even visited mine in the spray booth when it was out for painting in 95.....

It cured me instantly - I had a complicated teeth surgery at this time!
When I saw my baby the ouch instantly went to a relief :yesnod:

I can truly understand what you are going through, since an accident took mine away for 4 months. Now get out there are drive your baby, and tell it everything will be OK :yesnod:
