Sqeaking/scrapping kind of noise????
Pulling into the parking garage today, I hear a strange noise coming from the drivetrain. It only squeals will the car is moving forward and with/without brakes. I thought it might be the parking brake, but that wasn't it. Then later it disappeared. Do you think it was a u-joint or a bearing?

I had a similar noise coming out of the rear of the 82.
Most horrendous "set" of noises you would want to hear
coming from the back of the car. I say "set" because it
thumped, scraped, or squeaked at different times.
Turns out it was the half-shaft u-joints. Thank god I caught
it before one of them cut loose!!

It looks like you still have the rallyes on.
I don't recall anyone else has ever having this problem, but I tracked a squeak down to wheel weights against the trim rings.
Hopefully, it's something simple like that.

Budman:
My best guess would be your u-joint. However, Jerry brought up a good point. My dad has told me how common it is to have a squeaky trim ring. I would say check your trim rings first. I did this whenever I developed a squeak in the rear of my car.
It turned out to be a bad u-joint (u-joint cap was bone dry from lack of grease and was wearing the needle bearings). You will probably find your problem to be a bad u-joint. Good luck.

Just my opinion, but i have seen most of those symptoms appear in a car with bad u-joints. heres what mine did- i had the same problem- squeaks for a small(or could be large) duration of every wheel turn. squeeks for long durations when moving slow(obviously), faster metal grinding sound when going faster. occurs mainly when it is cold outside. doesnt start squeeking untill you have been driving for 2-3 minutes.if this is what you are doing check the u-joints. just a suggestiongood luck :jester

I had a scraping sound same as you described on my '82. I found my problem to be broken springs on the parking brake shoes. These little spings are stretched quite tight and can break easily(poor design). They drag inside your rotor. They hold the top of your brake shoes together at the top(against pivot post). This would be my bet.
