Default Why I won't drive my Vette in the winter

I just took these pics of the parking lot here at work. I thought those of you who are lucky to live in a warm climate might enjoy seeing what us Northern Folk deal with all winter.

Pic #1 Notice the salty tire tracks. Can you say "Salt Bath"?

Pic #2 Notice the size of the rock salt they are spreading. It is like gravel. Can you say "Complimentary Sand Blasting"?

The road in front of my house is the same way.

This is where us guys in South Florida get to rub it in. Winter is my prime driving time.

Perhaps this will cheer you up:

Ode to the SnowBelt Corvette Owner

While you sit, yearning for spring,
Hoping to hear the returning birds sing,
We southern boys are driving our vettes,
t-tops off, windows down, long after the sun sets.

You have plenty of time to polish your chrome,
While outside the sky remains a gray dome.
With all this “free” time, you’ve no excuse,
To have even a single bolt loose.

Better not give in and take your vette for a spin,
All that salt and ash on your car would be a sin.
So clean those bolts and re-cover those seats,
You may be ready in time for that June NCRS meet.

Don't worry corvette brother, only four months to go,
And there will be nothing left of this three feet of snow.
So don't cry and pout and sob in your beer.
The north's four months of nice weather will soon be here.

Hey, Thanks for that prose, Bro.

I might just get through the winter now.

But.... 4 months? For me it's more like 6...... :cry

I don't know how you snow guys do it. I mean, where I stay, it snows yes, but it only does it about once every 3-4 years(lately its been about 5-6 years)...And when it snows, its only like 1-2 inches. But the whole town shuts down. Mail doesn't run, school's are closed, hardly any shops are open, and no one goes anywhere except in their yard to build dirty snow men(you can only get so much snow before you start picking up grass and dirt and stuff)...And this ordeal lasts for about 2-3 days until the snow is completely gone. Up north you guys are driving around in 3 feet of snow...

I think you're all  . Those signs "bridge ices before road" make me slow down over a bridge and its never frozen, I couldn't imagine the entire road being frozen.

I think of Winter as my time to get all those major things done that require taking the car out useable status to do, so far I got a new clutch in, my bumpers have been sent off to be rechromed, and I'm getting the nose repainted (again), next I'm going to fix those darn valve seals. If it was nice out, I wouldn't want to be working on it but driving it so winter isn't so bad after all, OK OK it's somewhat bad but at least I get a lot of work done.

I drove my car in the snow once..only once. I blew up the transmission in my Honda which forced the Vette out of storage. It was not a wonderful time..

One benefit is that it does tend to keep the mileage down!!!

But in my case I put thousands of miles on my cars each "driving season" anyways :yesnod:

I live in the warmest region of my country so I guess I shouldn't complain, it's 2 F here in Helsinki, below -20 F in northern part of the country... I took my Vette out of the garage for the first time in 6 weeks. Damn it felt nice even thogh I only drove a couple of hundred meters down the road and back :) Summer is only four months away

I don't hate the snow, I love to play in it. I have a 2000 4x4 RAM that I have done some fun things to and it is a blast to drive around with the 4 wheel drive on. I do miss the vettes during the winter, though. I start them up about once a month to "make sure everything is working O.K." Just a good reason to listen to them! We have not gotten any snow yet this year. It is suppost to snow on Christmas. It just doesn't feel right going to Grandma and Grandpa's house without snow.

I live in Oklahoma, jot too much snow, but my Vette is so cold blooded, it takes forever to warm up.

Don't even get me started with the snow pictures. But hey, at least it warmed up about 40 degrees today to get to almost 0 degrees. Woo hoo, heat wave in Alaska!!!

When my daughters were 10 and 13, we took a trip up north to see snow, we played in it for a couple of hours, then drove back home to warm up...
This was the first time they had ever seen snow, we might do it again this year.
But I don't know, I don't like to get to cold :D :D :D
