Serving our Country - Going thru Withdrawls
All,
This is my first return to the Forum since 11 Sept. I'm in the service, and am now serving our country from an island in the Indian Ocean - Diego Garcia. I absolutely had to find an internet source to get back to this forum and get my fix - there are no Corvettes here :cry
Let me tell you, most of us all go thru winter blues, not driving the 'Vettes much, but to never even see one for months on end is pretty tough.
This is pretty cool: As you may know, we bombed the poopie out of the Taliban and Al Qaeda from here with B-1 and B-52's. One day at the flightline I grabbed a piece of chalk and took the liberty of representing this C-3 forum. I inscribed "Hey Taliban, Corvettes rule. This Shark's for you" on the nose of a 2000 lb GBU-31 bunker buster. Talking with the pilot later after the flight, we scored a direct hit. Felt good. :flag
Anyway, so with everything else I give thanks for, I also give thanks for this Forum which represents something really good about America, the finest group of people and the best cars on the planet. Thanks for letting me vent, and for the ability to dream -- a chance to remember what used to be. Next time you're polishing your pride and joy, remember us folks who'd give just about anything to be back home doing the same thing!
Cheers and God Bless America

Serving out country away from Family and Friends is mentally and sometimes phisically excruciating at times. I Know!!! Been there. All of us here really appreciate everything and welcome you back. Kick some more butt for me and bring yours back in one piece and in a hurry so you can get back to doing what you REALLY enjoy.

Thanks for serving your country. We are ALL very much aware and thankful for our brave military personnel. The "Personalized" Corvette "Bunker Buster" bomb is a great story! You should post it over in "Off Topic" so ALL the forums can read it!

First off, let me say a great big "THANK YOU" for all that you do and even those things that you give up so that we might live in freedom and without fear. You guys in uniform are doing us proud and proving daily that you are the finest fighting force ever.
A little over 30 years ago, I spent Christmas in the central highlands of Vietnam. I recognize and relate to your sacrifice and just want you to know we are behind you. Of all the things you are missing right now, the rebirth of patriotism at home is something you can be proud of.
Godspeed, get it done and get back home! :flag

Merry Christmas from a former NAS Whidbey guy. Used to fly with VQ-1, now a silly-vilian on the base. Good to here the chalk tale, keep up the good work. Be happy in the thought that the scum we are taking out will never know the joy of the Vette, or the pride of an American. They have known the intensity of an butt-whipping by a pissed off country. :flag

Like Rolling Thunder 32 years ago I spent Christmas lying in a rice paddy in Vietnam. I know what its like to be away from your loved ones during the Holidays. For what its worths, I guarentee that in a few years you will have a great feeling of satisfaction knowing you DID what had to done. God Bless you and the rest of you Guys for keeping this great country of ours free. Take care and know that you will not be forgotten during the Holidays :flag
Your Sharks misses you as much as you miss it.

Dave,
Take care out there. Spending a year away from the rock here at school in Newport. Can't wait to get back to the fleet.

Re: Serving our Country - Going thru Withdrawls (kenko74)
I spent a couple of weeks on Diego Garcia some years ago. My squadron was stationed aboard the USS Independence and I flew with a couple of other aircrews to Diego to have corrosion work done on our S-3a's.
I was quartered in a little bungalo right on the beach next to the little bay that goes quite shallow at low tide. I waded, snorkeled, and just went crazy looking at all the little creatures in that bay. I also got a pretty good tan lying on the beach on Christmas day
Wasn't much for me to do the two weeks I was there so toured the island. Was really amazed at those crabs at the opposite end where the plantation used to be.
Anyway, thanks for the memories and most of all - Thanks for your service. I'll think of you this Christmas and rev my engine just a little bit for you.
Best Regards
