Default question for those with dual snorkle air cleaners....

I have a dual snorkle on my car with a custom ram air setup.....i got the air cleaner in a trade with a guy who had a 72 across the street....swapped my 14x2 paper POS air cleaner/filter, for the snorkle.....i dont know whether or not it was original on his 72....but here is what i want to do....
I want to put on a chrome lid with this setup....Here is what i fould at riksvet.com
It says in the description...Corvette 1976-1981 Air Cleaner Lid Chrome Good Affordable Replacement 34.95 I presume its no high quality lid, but my engine compartment aint that awful neat anyway.....just want to make it look a little better....
Does this appaer to be the same that goes on this air cleaner in your opinion??

seems like it to me, but the years seem to mess things up....
Thanks Chris

It fit on my 80, the quality is fair and it looks and fits fine. I think it is worth the money. Take a look at my signature pic. lou

You have a completely custom setup so if it fits (it looks like it does) then use it. I don't think that setup would have been stock on a 72 either!

i dont think that your setup came stock, is your hood a cowl induction? if you do it woul cost some cashy to go back... think ya should stay with the cold air?

looks like my stock one on my 81, should work, Riks is a stand up vendor. Knowing GM probably all the same size, just chrome. These are getting pricier at swap meets...

I have a 74 as well and I know that the dual snorkel base for 73-75? were much larger because of the cowl induction. 72s didn't come with cowl induction so I am not sure about the top fitting the base. BUT I notice that you have the cowl induction hood on your car, it may be much easier to fabricate an air-box to seal to the hood and have a better setup. I know that plumbing those pipes through the radiator support is going to be tough and will decrease the efficiency of your cooling system although marginally.

Just my .02.

Ya.....i think im going to stick with the cold air setup....doesnt look as good as a open element, but it cut a few tenths off my ET.....i know that sounds like im a ricer, but have slips to prove it. I have the cowl hood, which is only like 2 inches...

as far as the cooling system....i run 160-165 all day in the summer with temps usually 90+
Thanks for the suggestions

Chris,
Take your hood off, give it to Pat. Have him add 2" to your cowl and inclose it so it only pulls cold air in from the bottom of the windshield. I bet he might repaint it for you too. Get your self a 4" K&N filter and pull in all the air you need.

IMHO, you need more than 14x2 for your engine. Somewhere I've seen an equation that allows you to calculate the suface area of cleaner needed to supply a certain number of HP. I suggest a minimum of 14x3 KN.
I like your ram air.... good idea.
