hehehaha...380hp mustang? come on
this ones a kicker. im talking to my buddy at class today, and he informs me his 69 mustang coupe(with a 289 cid v8) is putting out 380 horses. i laugh. he then goes on to tell me that is the power at the wheels, not the crankshaft.
at this point, im on the ground, rolling around. my ribs still hurt from laughing.
thats not all. i go to my economics class, and the 2001 c5 vette comes into discussion. smartA*$ #1 comments he cant believe that theyre selling them brand new for 35k, with all the options. smartA*$ #2(me) replies that if he gets one brand new for 35k, ill give him 40k the next day. haha ill let you know how tomarrow goes with my new c5  :bs

Invoice for 2001 coupe was around $35.8, so it wouldnt be out of the realm of possibility for a dealer to get the last ones off their lot for that, or even less than invoice. I dont know about "with all the options", but it's tough to sell a brand new 2001 once the brand newer 2002s are in, so you need some real strong $ incentives. Now for that 380 hp 289 mustang..... let's talk about mods! :) MJ

380 RWHP isn't totally out of this world. If he is claiming that kind of power with a nearly stock setup I would call :bs. With some mods, 380 RWHP isn't entirely out of the question. A NO2 setup would also be an easy way to make that kind of power.

So true, daniel, so true...my friend's "cruiser" '67 thinks it should fall apart at over 90 MPH, when my baby is screaming down the highway like a rocket (a lot over the speed limit, if you have to ask).
OBTW, love the color...hmm...I wonder why?? :smash:

Along with the Corvette I also have a 96 Cobra SVT. I had that dynoed at 375 hp at the rear wheels. Motor is pretty stock, twin crank sensors, 4 cam hemi head motor 4.6L. 370 rear, tube front end with adjustable suspension, tube rear trailing arms with adjustable suspension all from Ford Motorsports. I will say that is a fast car, out of the box dialed a 13.2. It may not be a Corvette but at least it is also American :flag

The 289 Hi-Po engine made 271 HP stock. The only thing is, it was last offered in 1968. In 1969, Ford went to the 302. If he has a 289 in it, he must have replaced his larger engine with the 289. If it is a 289 Hi-Po, it is not unreasonable to think that with mods, he could get it up to 380, but at the rear wheels that is a little hard to believe. That would mean he'd have to be pulling about 475 HP at the flywheel. Although not out of the question, it would have to be a pretty radical 289, and probably have to have a NOS shot.

I was going to say that! Shelby's Hi-po 289 cranked 306 hp. he estimated with the paxton supercharger, it would get 40-50 additional hp.

let me clarify a few things.first, you are right, it is a replaced engine. second, it is entirely stock. not even hi flo heads were added. and no nos. perhaps you would have to know the guy, because it is the same guy that told me the dodge viper could out- accelerate a top fuel dragster. granted, the viper is a beautiful work of art, but that seems a little far fetched. he is a nice guy and everything, but he knows just enough about cars to be dangerous, and enough to be completely sure of himself, so i dont argue. its pointless. and the car? a completely plain-jane 69 coupe. not the sst or cobra, just the plain coupe. and the engine? 150,000 miles. nice guy, and one of my best friends, but shouldn't work as a mechanic or car consultant of any kind :) 380rwhp mustang or not, i still stick by the vette. nothing handles or corners like one, and the attention you get at the local car wash is great. ;)

Check out Stangnet.com or Corral.net. There are a lot of Mustangs out there with Vortec or ProCharger superchargers making 350 - 400 rear wheel HP. Most of those guys are running 302s, 306s, or 331 small blocks. Since I work for the blue oval my daily driver is a Mustang which may get a blower when the snow stops falling in April. Be careful when you see a Stang messing with you because you never know what they may have.

Ditto on the blower thing. A friend of mine has an 88 5.0 with the supercharger. GT40 intake & throttle body, roller cam & roller lifters. I drove it once and it feels like it can out-pull my "stock" 454. My 90 Rustang 5.0 is about even with my 66 327/300, but with the supercharger and some intelligent chip programming, the little 5.0 sucker really pulls some G's. I was impressed with his work.... and I'm pretty hard to impress.
Can't speak on the rest of it.... but I agree... 150,000 miles & basically stock 289... 380 RHP?? Uh- I don't think so... even with nitrous, which he apparently does not have if it is basically "stock".
Take up a collection and have him dyno it- I'll bet it throws a rod bearing before the end of the pull.
