90-96 Dual Fans in a C3?
My nephew who works in a "recycling" yard says he has a 94 Corvette dual fan and shroud assy (he says the 90-96 are the same) that looks good and the motors both work and if I want it I can have it (no relays or wiring harness).
I was going to put on a single 16" fan or dual 12" fans without a shroud, by fabricating my own mounting brackets and such. But this seems like too good a deal to pass up.
Question: Has anyone done this? He says the left fan sits out a little further than the right fan - the shroud is raised so that the fan sits a little further back that the right fan. I would be interested in knowing how much shroud modification is necessary to fit around the a-arms and such - if it fits at all.
BTW: Will the radiator fit in a C3? This car is basically totaled from the rear and the front is not damaged.

I'm searchung for a dual fan setup from a 4th gen camaro. Its probably the same thing. If you have the wider radiator, it should fit. For free, I would go for it! If you don't want, send it my way!

71Roadster - Yeah I was thinking of taking them anyway, and if the shroud doesn't modify well, then I'd mount the dual fans without the shroud. I may as well take the radiator too, it may be worth something in a trade later on (my garage can never be too empty).
Daniel77350 - Now that I could use on another dream project of mine, a deuce coupe with that engine would be real nice.
Lt1er - Nope, not as a pusher, I've got A/C and the condensor would be in the way.

I bought a dual fan from a 90 and tried to use it in my 71. The vertical and horizontal dimensions seemed OK but the depth front to back was a problem. There wasn't enough clearance at the front of the upper driver side A arm and the shroud needed to be massaged to fit snugly onto the radiator. The 90 mounting flanges do not match up with the edges of the 71 radiator so custom flanges or brackets would be required.
The fans seemed to work great and moved a lot of free air. The 90 shroud had several open areas for air to flow thru when the fans were not working and the shroud had a divider so that when one fan was working air could not short cycle thru from the back side of the non operating fan to the operating fan and not go thru the radiator.
Also the wiring harness on the 90 will have to be redone for separate control of each fan.
In short, you can make it work, but it probably won't look as good at the Spal or twin flexalite and probably won't work any better.

Re: 90-96 Dual Fans in a C3? (flynhi)
flynhi - thanks, that's the info I was looking for. The price is right, $0 vs $250+ (SPAL). Wiring harness, relay, and sensor, I would need to buy anyway, no matter which fan I bought (it's not included in the $250 cost for the SPAL either).
I looked up a 94 Corvette service manual at the library yesterday. It seems the left fan is a primary and the right is a secondary. It looks like the right fan turned on when the A/C was on, no matter what the coolent temp. The relays were 30a for the primary fan and 40a for the secondary. Beyond that the harness would not do me much good as it ties into the main engine harness near the radiator.
