Default Has anyone gone from hi-perf to stock setup?

Just curious to see if anybody ever made the effort to return their Vette to stock or near stock running gear after experiencing a hi performance setup.

I think that you should! ;) While your at it just give up drag racing also. Shine it up with Zano and go to NCRS events and sit in the hot sun while the judges say your car looks like poopie. Everybody should keep their car all original. :U

I almost did that. I was getting to the point that I was unable to find someone willing to smog my car the old fashioned way ;) $$$. I finally gave up and rebult my stock distibutor and dug up the Qjet from the shed. I went back to factory fuel pump, began replacing TCS system, and was shopping for a stock cam. Fortunately, Kalifornia exempted 73 and back cars about a month later, so I ordered headers, put the holley back on and bought new heads. :D

My storage shed is filling up with all of these stock parts that I'm keeping for "that day" when I need to or want to put everything original back on. I was just curious to see if anybody ever reached "that day" and if they successfully completed the project. For me, it would be awfully hard to find the motivation to complete such project.

So I'm probably just fooling myself when I think about "that day". :D

Oh well i guess with a new high perf cam grind, new heads with better burn rate, i can have the guy doing the test say what the hell, instead of holy crap how bad is this thing running rich

I think if I HAD to go to all the trouble, not to mention the aggravation, I'd sell the car and be done with it.

everyone keeps telling me to save all the oldriginal stuff I`m pulling off my engine. They say "It will be worth more money" I say to who? It came out with 190 hp :U Plus I have a 1980 front end on it and rear bumper. I am not taking that off to make it original, then putting all the slow stuff back on. Hell I`m not selling the car. I am going to build the 80 4 bolt block into a beast and mabe add some juice to it. and put that in there next year.
Just my $.02

They made 53,000 1979 Corvettes. It will NEVER be rare, at least for the next 100 years or so. I have a 1979, and I put in a ZZ/502 with a 6 speed O.D. Rather than the 195 h.p. boat anchor that it came with. Now I'm a happy guy.
