Clear Carpet Protector as Temp Front Nose Bra ?
Hi,
I'm picking up my C6 next month out of state and have a 1200mile ride home. I would like something to protect the front end of my new car, however, I do not want to purchase a bra, because I am getting a Clear Bra installed once I get back home.
Someone mentioned to get clear carpet protector. It's like shrink wrap. It is used to put on carpet to protect. You purchase this at Home Depot or Lowes.
Can anyone confirm that this is safe and will not be harmful to the paint?
What about at highway speeds?
Perhaps there is a cheaper alternative out there?
And yes, I am seeing if I can borrow a C6 bra (I will leave a deposit) but so far no luck in my regional forum. Anyone?
thanks all!!

Have you checked on getting your clear bra installed where you are picking the car up at? If you let me know where the pick up point is at… I might know a good installer there.
The only other option I would recommend is the blue tape everyone uses to tape off the front of their cars when they hit the track. It will look odd but should do the job.

Yes I have checked around the area where I am purchasing the car, but the price of the Clear Bra is significataly higher than here locally.
About the tape that guys but on there car when they go to the track...is that just regular Painter's Tape? Is there a special one for cars? Perhaps alittle thicker?
Thanks for the replies!

Unless you know for certain that the glue on the back of this carpet protector definitely WON'T harm clear coat or paint, I wouldn't take the chance. There is a reason the various "clear bra" mfrs. use the glues they do: one is to stick it down semi-permanently, and the other is to allow it to be loosened and removed, no matter how long and under whatever conditions it's been on the car.
Your best bet is to either buy a used, thick vinyl bra for the one use to your, home, or borrow one. Ck the parts for sale in C6.
Heck, for that matter, post in the region where you're picking up the car, too. Say you'll get the bra, use it, ship it back cleaned up and give the owner 50 bucks.

Isn't that the same stuff transporters wrap boats with, when they move them piggy-back on trucks, from one side of the country to the other??
If not, you might want to research that product. I had a boat moved from Michigan to Californicate. it was essentially pristine when peeling the stuff off, at arrival.

It doesn't look great, but I recommend using Blue Painter's Tape if you don't want to buy a vinyl bra. I would tape the whole nose, the edges of the wheel wells and the rocker panels

CARPET WHAT? A 1200 mile ride won't harm the paint, apply a good quality wax and be done with it. IS A CORVETTE the paint is tough like the rest of the car.

When I was researching plans for my trip from the NCM, I came across someone that used the clear vinyl kitchen shelf liner. Rubbermaid Con-Tact, I think. It's at Wal-Mart or Target. Didn't try it but was told it worked great.

after thinking about it last night and searching some websites, I decided to just buy the GM front end mask (bra) from Gene at GM PartsHouse.
$84, shipping included!

One of my fellow drag racers tried the carpet protection stuff on the rear of his C5, instead of using the painter's tape. He was very happy with the way it worked. He was able to remove with no residue. I don't know what brand he used.
