Rear End Noise
71 350/270 The rear end has about 2,000 miles on it after the rebuild. I had to replace a drive axle yolk seal. One of our forum members suggested to use Amsoil gear lube instead of GM oil and additive. He said that it has been a year with Amsoil and has had no problems. I took the vette out today and it makes a medium pitched howling noise when I make a right or left turn. Could this be because of the oil? Tomorrow I am going to check the level again and if it is good I am thinking about putting in the additive. If that doesn't do it maybe I will try the GM oil and additive. Any other thoughts?

Re: Rear End Noise (Tom Johnson)
I tried a gear oil from ecklers and did not use the additive and my rear popped liked crazy. Now I just put in what GM says. Why switch. :chevy

Re: Rear End Noise (tom75)
I've heard rear end chatter before, but this is more of a medium pitched howling noise. I check the fluid level and its right on the button. I don't thinks it has anything to do with me changing the oil seal. That is a pretty straight forward proceedure and I was very careful doing it.

Re: Rear End Noise (CHEESERAL)
I had the howling in my 81 whenever I went around a corner, the GM posi additive solved my problem too.
Good Luck
