will the performer RPM air gap intake fit under my hood...
I just bought the engine featured in my signature. Will I have enough hood clearance with a drop base air cleaner? By the way, the engine will go in a 1978 vette.

yeah, but that doesn't look like the stock hood. I need it to fit under my stock hood.

The answer to this question over the past few weeks has been a resounding - "Maybe"
It depends on what drop base cleaner you use and how tall the filter is, not to mention the carb used and whether or not you have to use a spacer. Quite a few factors. You should probably go to Edelbrocks website to check their measurments and then take measurments on your vette. Of course the only sure-fire way to know, is to try it. Quite a few guys have made them fit so I'm sure you could too with a little ingenuity. BTW, the Performer RPM fits on my 79 L-82 with a drop base cleaner and low profile air cleaner lid.
Let us know what you use to make it fit if you decide to use it.

Any ideas on a 71 hood? I am thinking that if I don't go with the dual 4s I will run an RPM air-gap with an Edelbrock 750. Thanks.

The problem you've got is the Edelbrock carb. It is to wide to work with any of the drop base air filters on the market. They are all built for Holleys or Demons. Edelbrock dosen't even make one. But you can use a cheap Mr Gasket base and modify (form) the base to fit around your fuel line, throttle cable and choke. Below is a Holley 300-36 (1/8 in taller than the Air Gap), 1/2 in nitrous plate, .390 wood resin block, 750 Edelbrock and a 2 5/8 K&N. There is 5/16 in clearance at 2:00 and 1 in at 9:00. Yes it will fit.

I don't know about a 71.

HI
WE PUT AN AIR GAP ON MY BUDDYS 77 HE USED A 14X3 EDELBROCK SIGNATURE CROME DROP BASE AIR CLEANER WITH NO SPACERS IF YOU USE
AN EDELBROCK CARB YOU WILL NEED TO USE A RIGHT ANGLE FUEL INLET
FITTING

Lots of members have shoe horned the Air Gap in many different models and years. It is always a tight fit and you usually have less than 1/2 in hood clearance when you finished.
I have not seen one yet with an Edlebrock carb but with the correct air cleaner assembly it is possile.
This is my '80 with a K&N Etreme top setup :D
