Default Loud ticking :(

My engine is producing a very noticeable ticking, I used a hose to pin-point where is it comming from. It seems to come from the intake manifold ????
Any ideas how to locate the source?
Regards

trying tightening your exhaust manifold bolts, loose bolts or the lack of a gasket produce loud ticking noises.

Light ticking - could be exhaust leak as Gary 79 stated

Medium ticking - collapsed lifter

Loud ticking (knocking) - bad rod bearing

Don't forget to check your fuel pump. If they go, the arm doesn't reach the fuel pump pushrod, and it makes a heck of a tick.

Now that I think about it, both times that I had that problem it was with a new fuel pump. Not one that just suddenly started doing it. Still worth checking.

What works good for checking exhaust leaks is a 'punk'. You know, the the sticks you light fireworks with that do not burn with a flame but just smoke. With a running engine, just move it around the exhaust system and if it leaks you will find it. I suppose you could also use an incense stick too, at least if you find a leak you'll be calm. :D

Exhaust leaks are more of a "popping" sound, and obviously vary with RPM. If it's not difficult, replace the exhaust manifold gaskets, they are cheap.

Sometimes holding a rag to the tail pipe will load the leak enough to make it louder. The exhaust is hot so be careful. If this makes the sound louder its exhaust.
Are you sure it isn't a lifter out of adjustment?

You may need to check your rocker arms. A "loose" rocker arm will tick each time the pushrod lifts it, and it can be quite loud. It will often seem to come from the intake manifold or the exhaust system. Hope this helps.

There were 16 "Loose" rockers ????????
