Dont you love when people make silly comments about cars. I have 2 stories i would like to relay.

Number 1: Standing around at a party looking at a mid sixties mustang conv with a 351 in it. The owners friend proclaimed to the group of 10 or so people that it had over 700 Hp and the engine alone was worth over $60,000 Aus. I asked if he had run the 1/4 mile. No. Ever run it on a dyno? No. Then how do u know it makes 700hp? Cos it can spin the wheels all the way up to top gear (auto). My reply to this was that my "Kingswood", a four door family sedan made in the the 70s with a 202 ci 6, could spin all the way thru the gearbox too. Laughter from the crowd. Owner now joins in. "Its got so much horsepower i cant get traction in first gear." My very smart reply "No poop u get no traction, with a 4500 rpm stall and 8" wheels on a solid axle what did u expect?" Muffled laughter from the crowd. And then the clincher as the owner drops the bonnet/hood. "For a street car with a 700hp 351 engine worth over $60K why are u running a carby? Havent u heard of fuel injection?"
His reply "mate, this Barry Grant Gold Claw will poop all over any type of injection!" Then he slammed his door and took off in a haze of tyre smoke..and yes he did spin into 3rd gear.

Number 2
Looking at a 1955 Ford Customline, lowered with new interior. A person commented on the B&M shifter. "Yeah this thing must have *****, I bet its got a 454 in it to have a shifter like that!"

lets see, batteries weigh what???? take up HOW much space??? overall effieiency is WHAT??? recharge rate is HOW long???...performance is WHAT???

I was at the local high school this fall (Corvette club providing cars to drive the cheerleaders around in - not a bad job), and this guy starts talking about how he works for a Chevy dealer and drove a C5 across town on the highway. He said it would do 70MPH in First gear. He knew I owned a 99' 6 speed because we talked about it before. I didn't have the heart or time to correct his exuberance in front of his friends. But, I will not be buying a Vette from that dealership any time soon! :crazy:

You know, corvettes fracture and fall apart into a million pieces if they are in an environment that gets below 50 degrees. A guy I work with has an uncle (just like everybody else) that has one, and he keeps it in a heated garage, but the heater quit working one winter, and once it got below 50 the car shattered into a million pieces. That's why he would never own one of the POS. :bs That's because they're made of fiberglass you know. I asked him what he thought snowmobile hoods and lift truck baskets and many semi cabs were made of. He replied, "well, that's a higher quality fiberglass. It has a higher steel content". I give up.

LOL. cheap fiberglass? thats a riot. you know, i work out at a methane field inw wyoming as part of my job. here, it gets below 0 degrees every now and then, maybe about 10-20 times in the winter. and guess what? those huts that contain the methane well heads? theyre fiberglass. and guess what else? theyre about as cheap of a mix as you can buy. and you know what? ive seen over 400 different wells regularily and ive yet to see one cracked from the cold. oh, and higher metal content? excuse me? in fiberglass? i think the IQ level just dropped about ten points. hahaha. :lol: :bs

That 400 Watt speakers will be louder than 50 Watt speakers. This is the speaker power handling, not the power fed TO the speaker! (Actually for anyone who cares the 50 Watt speaker will be louder than the 400W when fed 40w of power from an amp. This is due to efficiency and suspension damping.)

And the classic
3 way speakers are three times as loud as a normal speaker. :hat

...a guy at a show once told me that he didn't bore his engine out when he rebuilt it because he didn't want the compression to drop any lower than it already was... :rolleyes:

What about these guys that INSIST on the existence of steel bodied 'Vettes?! There's this guy I work with that wouldn't take no for an answer. Finally one day he produces a picture of that concept 'Vette from the early '70's that was supposed to be turbine powered and says "THERE, SEE!". OK Fred, whatever.

I was riding with my buddy the one time when he laid this one out.

My Buddy: "Your speedometer only goes to 70mph?"
My Buddy: "My mom's van has a higher speedometer than that!"
*After I stop laughing and gain my composure*
Me: "No, that's my tach :D "
Me: "My speedometer is over here."
My Buddy: " :eek:, It goes up to 160mph!"
Me: "Yep :)"

It always seems to amaze me just how impressed people are by the 160mph speedometer. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it would never go that fast ;). Then he proceeded to bust this one out.

My Buddy: "Did you wreck your car already?"
Me: "What?"
My Buddy: "You're missing your passenger side mirror."
