Default Power Steering Cap question for 72 & 73?

I just replaced one of the lines from the power steering actuator on a 73' small block coupe, it had a small leak in it. After that, I noticed when the tires were pinned to one corner or the other, the cap on the pump would start leak alot. The cap on this 73' did not have a breather hole on the top. So, I go over to a 72' small block car and pull it's cap off its power steering pump. I noticed on the 72', it did have a breather hole in the top. I put the cap from the 72' on the 73' and after a couple turns, the cap quit spitting out power steering fluid. Now, I first figured that I put a little too much fluid in the 73' pump, and after cleaning everything up. I asked myself why the caps where different?

Does anyone know if there are differences between certain years on the power steering caps? Just thought that it was interesting to see.

Thanks,
Rob
