Default 12 Bolt Corvette Center Section

I have a 12 bolt posi Corvette center section with 5:13 gears that will fit '63-'79 models. It needs axles (they were lost but Tom's 1480 and 1350 axle kit comes with them and you would want to upgrade anyway) and a rear cover. It was used briefly but it looks new inside. I spoke to Tom and he said that I could use any of the Corvette 12 bolt gears that he currently offers (3.73-4.56). Gears are around $340. This was purchased as a spare unit but they are so durable that I'll probably never use it. .............Sold............. Thanks.

The person that I got it from said that it was. When I spoke to Tom's it sounded like one of theirs. They said that I could send it to them but the thing is close to 100 lbs. and I didn't think it was worth the freight there and back as it looks to be in excellent condition.

$950 and I'll pay cash in person at your house or specified location. Without side yokes it makes the conversion more expensive! And, I'll let you keep the gear set for a spare. I'm in SF bay area. Eric B. Email me at zeohsox2002@yahoo.com

The 12 bolt units that Tom Watt builds do not have springs - he also polishes the posi unit around the casting. He tunes the posi unit for use without springs and installs solid clutches.

I appreciate the info as many people out there are unaware of what these center sections are all about.

The "polishing" that Tom's does is around the radius of the openings of the posi unit itself and other critical areas (this unit is). It is not polished around the unit itself as many think. When I spoke to Kenny & Tom, they said that, in regards to the spring pack, that it is not uncommon for people to add the spring packs as they think that they are missing.

So, was it made by Tom's? I'm only going by what I was told. It could have been made by Pepe Estrada (Who Tom worked for and originated the conversion), Henry's Machine Works (who made the axles, spindles, caps etc.) or many of the others that used to do these conversions. As mentioned earlier, I didn't want to spend the freight to send it to Tom's as it looks to be in excellent condition. I guess if I did send it back to them I could post that it was or was not originally made by them.

Hope this helps.
