Default Q-jet Question (choke plate removal)

Anyone have any information on whether or not its worth removing the choke plate on a q-jet on a mostly street driven car. I do not have the choke hooked up now and it would be easy the completely remove the choke plate. I'm wondering if this would improve the air flow into the front barrels.

I've done it, and can't notice any difference on a street driven vehicle. I haven't tried running actual 1/4-miles with a before-and-after time, so I can't say for certain that it doesn't make any difference at all. But it doesn't make any difference you can feel.

How drivable is it without the choke working?

I have no problem starting the car without a choke, I always crank the engine over for about 10 second seconds before I touch the gas so the oil pressure comes up and then pump the gas two or three times and it fires right off. I do have to keep feathering the gas pedal for about 10 to 15 seconds to keep it running and drive two footed at the first couple stops, but the car does not hesitate at all, I did go up one jet size on the primarys when I rebuitl the carb.

If you had your choke hooked up and properly set. Your car would start just about imediatly and be drivable. I think you would like it better with it working.

I don't think cranking it over to get oil pressure is doing anything. When the engine starts it gets oil pressure. Way faster than 10 seconds. If your cranking it over all the moving parts still are moving.
