Crazy Question

Re: Crazy Question (mrbeaubo)
Yes, I believe it can be done....but why? There would be so many changes that would need to be made that it wouldn't be a real PITA. You would be better off dropping a 454 into the 'Vette....bolts right up. Just my opinion.

Even if you made some motor mounts, the bell housings are different so you would have to use an Olds transmission. Why would you want to do such a thing anyway?

Oh, more of a joke than anything, just to see if it was possible! ;) Found a block for 75 dollars, dont even know if thats cheap or normal or what. ;) I'm looking for a 454 to rebuild on my own, for experience ;)

Re: Crazy Question (mrbeaubo)
You can get some monster torque out of an Olds big block (actually I think most Olds V8's are the same exterior size) - but it would cost more to build and like mentioned before the tranny would need to be changed and last, but not least resale would be difficult at best. Now a 500CI Caddy in a Studebaker - that’s a combo :D

$375 for the block only? I suppose it's reasonable considering the block already has the machine work done to it.
Before you start buying big block parts you should take a look at how much this project is going to cost you....don't make the same mistake I did ;) This isn't something you want to jump into, do some research before hand.

Doesn't anybody remember when "The General" was caught stuffing 350 Chevy engines into Oldsmobiles? Sounds like mrbeaubo figures it's "PAYBACK time"! :smash:

A few years ago a corvette dealer here in town had a "beater" C3 for sale that had a Buick V-6 in it . ( Not a GN engine) The dealer said in was in Puerto Rico for some time. :U

Re: Crazy Question (mrbeaubo)
Buick, Olds Pontiac 455s are pretty wide, maybe even wider than a BB Chevy (BTW, the B-O-P 350s were the same block). I think that it's a pretty heavy block compared to the BBC as well. Those motors make a lot of torque, but I think the BBC is a better design for horsepower-per-inch.
