No plastic bushings used on the weight pin holes in the kit I got from lars for my HEI.

For your advance to work properly, I'd use them.

I thought the plastic bushing went over the end of the vacuum canister pin on the dist base plate to limit the amount of total vac advance. Don't think I've ever seen any bushings at the weights themselves. Probably gives you a couple different sizes in the kit....

ok cool, ill skip em since theres none in there now and the curve is already what i want... (36 total with ~15 initial by ~2500 rpm)

i just thought the vertical play was excessive without bushings on the weights and it seems the holes are big enough that there shouldbe some bushings.......

hopefully LARS will chime in anytime now???

LARS you out there buddy??

:) :) :)

thanks guys!

I asked Lars this same question about a week ago. According to him they are not necessary.

early HEI had no bushings but later ones do because the weights wore grooves the pins. there is a after market bushing kit with a drill jig to change over to over size bushings for repair of worn pins :chevy

Default Re: does the distributor advance weights have plastic bushings around the pins?? (pats406nitrovette)

i went to the GM dealer today to get new pins and 106 weights becuase the holes are worn too big from where it contacts the pins....and the GM guy didnt know WTF i was talking about....

then he said he doesnt carry those items..

local auto parts stores and speedshops drew a blank also..

does anyone know where i can get replacement pins and replacement "106" weights??? the curve is setup exactly as it should be right now... so i dont want to go to some other weights.. (i do have some mr gasket curve kit weights but dont want to use them)

thanks!!

Bushings for my '76 were/are available from NAPA. Echlin # DP112 Advance Bushing Set. About $3-4.

You can see the nylon bushings in this pic. They cost about $2.00.

it all depends on what year your vehicle is the newer HEI Distributors have weights that have a little pad around the pin hole. The pin itself is a larger diameter then the older style which need bushings.
If you need advance weight bushings I have them. Contact me at automan_1954@hotmail.com and let me know how many pairs of bushings you would like. Bushings are $5 a pair with free shipping to the continental United States.

heh this is odd... all my MSD pro billets don't use the bushings either, maybe because they are race oriented, but you'd think they'd use bronze or some kind... learn something new everyday I guess
