I've got all the rear ripped out of mine at the moment & it looks like it can be done. It just looks a bit fiddly to do though....

Don't know for sure, guess it depends on what type of muffler you have and how mounted, but if stock or nearly stock, and like those on my '81, then the answer is yes.

I removed and replaced my power antenna, with the exhaust system and mufflers on......a little tight, but can be done, get ready for some dirt to fall in your face, as you do this job, unless you vette is really super clean.

I had to cut some wires to get my antenna out, as they had no splice connectors.

Ditto here.
I had to undo the muffler hanger from the frame to push it to the side a bit but you shouldn't have to pull the whole muffler out.

I removed, repaired, and replaced the power antenna in my '81 without screwing around with any exhaust parts. Wouldn't think the '81 was any different from the '79 in that regard. One caveat, tho... the mufflers on my '81 aren't the stock GM units. Don't know if that will make any difference. I've got the "Monza" mufflers from Mid-America. The cans are as big as stock mufflers, so I doubt it matters.

Good luck! :seeya

Should not be very hard. All that is really different is the relay. As long as the radio has a line for it.

The mast can be removed without interference from the exhuast unless you have a heavily modified system or uniquely large mufflers. Plug the coax cable into the new antenna, and cap-off the power lead that comes from the stereo.

Yea... you can do it... but if you're replacing the whole power antenna unit, it's going to come with all the power cables and the antenna coax which has to be thread through the body.... under the carpet... around the seats.... under the console and into the back of the radio.
Taking the exhaust off is the easiest part. And it's worth the effort. The power antenna is one of the coolest options on a Corvette.
Love to make that sucker go up.

Pulled mine in my 78 without any problem, I would think 79 would be the same.

I remove my power antenna, its a tight but it can be done with a lot of patience. IF you can take the muffler off , it will be MUCH better.

when i replaced my dead antenna, i found it much easier to drop the back portion of the exhaust down. i replaced my antenna with a $40 unit from wal-mart,comes with 12 ft of antenna wire and you'll need every bit of it. by pass the original relay under the rear of the console as most new units have the relay built into them.
