Default First broken parts of the year

1989 fully forged 383, AFR 195 Elim, 230/230 0.598", ZF6, McLeod Street Twin.

I broke (at least) the rear spindle in my car. The mechanic said it was at least that and wasn't sure if it could also possibly be the rear hub and inner bearings.

He says (before he takes it apart) it appears to broken like this.

What are the odds that it's just the spindle and not the bearings. This happened during a "fun launch" in front of a friend and didn't see any rpms after breakage cuz I got right out of it.

Not a good start to the year.

What rpm did you launch at? I am suprised you broke something on the street with street tires.

I was bringing up the revs, and not too high either. It wasn't a high rpm thing. I'm guessing somwhere around 2500-3000 probably. Didn't leave any black marks either cuz as soon as I was letting out the clutch, I hear some unhappy noises, so the clutch immediately went right back to the floorboards.

You better look at Tom's Differentials he sells tough spindles, you don't have to ask me how I know. If your lucky you didn't screw the bearing and the wheel speed sensor. I wasn't lucky.

Rich S, it looks exactly like that.

I just got back from the mechanics and saw the carnage. Well, new part in (stock replacement for now just to see if it'll do it again) and mechanic said "let me take it for a test drive and I'll call ya back".

Just got the call from the mechanic and said it also took out the ABS sensor and it was the spindle replaced along with the rear hub (I think that's what it was..).

Also he said he just got on the gas a bit and it twisted the passenger side half shaft. A few years back, I twisted the driver's side. So, now it looks like I'll be seriously thinking about firing up some Denny's Nitrous Ready half shafts.

Any input on Dennys parts and or other sturdy half shafts?

Badluck Jerry!

I might be in your same vote with the brutal tq that the 421 will be making.

Changing that clutch?

Get your ABS sensor from Corvette Central it is $106.00, at a GM dealers is is $190.00. There is a company in Toronto that makes halfshafts. Make a post on the Canadian section as I can't remember their name. The shortened a driveshaft for me.

You installed that clutch, and now things are breaking.

Hmm!! I wonder what it is?
