Default Stereo system in 78-82, got any ideas?

First I know this is audio related but I've tried to post in the audio forum, and got no help there. Everybody just wants to tell me what brand of speakers to use.
Ok,
I want to put a system in my 78 and I need some ideas for speaker placement. I want to use either a pair of 12" or 10" subs in the back. I've already mounted the cd player in the instrument cluster, and replaced the front speakers. I want to add some speakers in the back along with the subs9I'm thining componenets0. I have 2 nice amps to power all the speakers. I was wondering if anyone had a set-up they had done like this (you know a pretty clean install) that they could tell me about or show some pics. I've seen the box that people build to put 6x9s. I would like to keep the capabilty of carrying the tops in the back, and to keep everything below the shade, so I would be able to hide it. I'm not really worried about retaining stock configurations. Let me know of any ideas you have or problems you may have run into in your car.
Thanks
Jason

Im sure you'll get alot of pics there are some bad a** systems here. There's that common truck box that holds two twelves, and it fits perfectly ( looks like it was built for it) in my 77. I've seen them at K-Mart for pretty cheap. In my 77 I can't put my tops in with it back there, but your 78 should have more room. I'll take some pics....

I'm guessing you didn't have the rear speaker option. Hang on, I'll go take a pic. A friend of mine was talking about having a low-profile box built that could still hold weight. It would be about the same size as the rear area so you would have to remove it to get at the battery and other compartments. It would hold the amp and I believe one sub, but if it's built right, that's all you would need in the back of a C3. I'll be right back with pics of the rear speaker option.

Edit: Here is the pic of the factory optioned rear speaker. You could add these as well as a sub if you wanted.

The 6x9 box that you can order from Ecklers still allows you to carry t-tops.

See my website for a picture of one.

That said, I'm eventually gonna get rid of mine and replace it with a custom built box. Probably one with two 8" separates with tweeter and a single 10". 6x9's just have a problem with reproducing bass.

But...you can build a box and keep the room for t-tops, most definitely.

If you get 2 good quality 12's the box needed for a ported system is huge, it took up my entire storage space behind the storage compartments. I should also mention I had 4 12's mounted in an isobaric (sp?) setup, so I can tell you from experience fiberglass sounds really bad when it vibrates ;) I no longer have the setup so I don't have any pics.

The previous owner of my 1978 installed a Clarion CD player, upgraded the dash speakers and installed a self-powered bass "tube" in the back on the floor just under the security screen. I like the sound of this system, and the tube takes up very little space, as it's only about 7" diameter and 15" long. It's black and blends in with the black interior.

I have a pioneer cd player in the dash, 2 new pioneer 4x6's in the dash, 2 new pioneer 6x9's in the rear, and a custom box made with two 12" subs. The box fits in the back and still allows the t-tops to lay back there plus it is short enough for the black shade thing to go across. I just installed the system not to long ago and haven't had a chance to hook up a amp to it all yet. I am still thinking of a good place to mount the amp. Overall, after I install the amp, I should have over a 500+ watt system. Not much, but enough that I will here the music over the engine :D :D :D

I'm running a Pioneer head unit with Pioneers dash speakers and a dual 8" box in the back. Trust me it's more sound than I need and more bass than I want. Thankfully the CD player let's you custom format your EQ range.

i put a kenwood in the dash. a huge Clairion AMP that I put in the storage compartment next to the battery, after removing the compartment. And i have a 350 watt, 10in sub in a box in the back. the t-tops fit fine and all of it can fit under the shade thing.
