Default A/C Front Seal

I bought a rebuilt A/C Compressor from a friend about a year ago. I'm finally ready to install it in my 73 project car. I noticed a small amount of oil coming out of the front seal. I asked a mechanic and he said that sometimes they will seep until the shaft is turned for a while and that the pressure of the charge will help it seal. Do any of you guys have any experience with this. I'm thinking of having new seal installed just to be safe. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig

Is it the long type A6 compressor? I think these types have an oil reserve. I guess it would be normal to have some seepage if its been sitting for a while.

An A6 is fine with a little leakage under your circumstances....if you saw the nature of the ceramic seal in it, you would understand....when it's run, it most likely will be fine, need a bit of freon, but no sweat....
