Dye'ing my '69 steering wheel (how to remove metal ring)
Not willing to spend the going rate for a black '69-'75 steering wheel, I bought a dark red one for $30. My options are to either put on a leather wrap or dye it.
I have not found a leather wrap that will work with the thin steering wheel, so now I'm looking into dye'ing it black. My biggest concern is the metal ring which goes around wheel. I cannot figure out a way to remove it. Is there a trick, or would I have to cut it to remove it?

I believe it just pulls off, you need to use a little force, but don't attempt to pry it off. I pulled mine of with my hands.
I believe thats how it comes off.
