Unfortunately that needed to be 213 miles in order to make it to the gas station this morning :(

Had to call the wife, get her out of bed, have her get the kids out of bed, and bring me what little gas was left in the gas can in the shop. It was enough for that extra 3 miles anyhow.

So much for getting to work early today.

That's the closest I've ever come to checking my mileage on purpose. I've always just guessed at 10 mpg and gone with that. That tankful DID have 3 dyno runs on it, so there's a little more useage than normal, not much though.

I was going to drive my car to work one day soon. It's around 200 mi round trip. I think I should check my mpg befre I do.

The farthest I went durring a trip on 24.2 gallons 1979 modified L-82 was 472. that was driving none stop from one gas station to another. After installing the 700R4 500+ miles on the odometer between fillups was the norm with freeway and driving to and from work.

Now with a more radical motor I only get 17.2 or so. This last trip of 426 miles I put in 24.7 gallons. The most gas that I have ever put in it was just over 25 gallons.

The last Road trip I did..I got 19 mpg.......Of course around town under acceleration it is only around 14.....Still not to bad and better than the factory claims...

Last time I checked I pulled down 16 mpg with mixed highway/surface street driving being conservative with the go-pedal. Not to bad I think with the old Muncie and 3.55's :D Throw in a little spirited driving and I drop to the 11-12 range real quick though. :lol:

I get between 210 - 225 miles per tank in my '69, both before and after I installed my 383. At that point, the gauge is dead on the E, but I only manage to get just under 16 gallons in. One day, I'm going to run it out of gas and see how much it will take.

I top my tank off at 11 gallons and usually go 230-250 miles before it needs refilled. The MPFI makes a huge difference. :cheers:

Ok. Someone is full of :bs here! Not here, here, but relative to my car.

Ran out
Put about 1/4-1/2 gallon in.
Put 5 gallons in at the gas station
Just put 14.5 gallons in at lunch
Total put in: Just under 20 gallons.

From the run-out to the fill up I drove 18 miles. So I drove 228 miles on about 20 gallons of gas (what it took total to fill up) so I got 11.4 mpg figuring that way.

BUT!

I ran out of gas at 210 miles. So I got 10.5 mpg on THOSE 20 gallons.

SO...

There is no way that tank holds 20 usable gallons. Gotta keep that in mind next time I get low :D

I've never got 20 gallons to fit in my car. Most ever was a little over 14. I usually fill to 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch from overflowing which brings the guage to full and keeps it that way for about 30 miles.

I topped mine off with as much as I could fit in it. Looks like I only have a useable 18.5 gallons in that 20 gallon tank. I regularly fill it with 16 gallons. Today was a notable exception.

I dont really ever let mine get bellow 1/4 tank but the most i ever put in it was about 12 gallons and i should have a 20 gallon tank. The only time i measured my milage was on the highway driving about 75 plus passing people and i got about 8.5 mpg. :eek: I dont think the car was tuned very well at that piont though.

Unless I really suck at math, I was getting 17 MPG on the highway at 85 MPH...both ways from C-Springs to Pueblo.

Oh, and I have an M-20 and a 3.55:1 Posi rear end...

I need to go reconfirm this with more "scientific" studies though. :smash:

I've squeezed 15.5 in mine right to the tippy top. Best range was 165 miles, but that was with all six barrels going a few times. So about 10 mpg. I'm OK with it. Just need lots of fuel stops...
