Lots of guys running 255/60/15 with no problems. Seems to be car specific. 245/60/15 appears to be everyones safe bet for no rubbing on the front. Best wishes.

245/60/15 is the size I'm running. No problems...

However when it comes the time to replace them (soon), I'll replace them by 225/70/15, due to the availability of better tires in this size.

I'm running B.F. Goodrich 245/60's all the way around. If your car was originally equiped with 255/60's, the front fenders were trimmed at the factory to accomodate them. If not, the 255's could possibly give you rubbing problems. A friend put 255/60's on a '78 & the front tires rubbed on the inside of the frame. I personally have not heard of any one having problems with 245's on the front.

I'm running 255/60's all around. The inside fender lip had been trimmed at the factory but that's the only difference. If yours arent'y trimmed, a few minutes iwht a Roto-zip tool and you're done. :smash:

Where on the fender would they be trimmed? and will I be able to tell if it was already trimmed at the factory?

Bill,

Yes, you can tell if your Vette originally came with the 60 series tires.

If you are looking at the drivers side front fender, the wheel well lip is trimmed starting at about the 11 o'clock position slightly & as you go forward (towards the 8 o'clock position). The wheel lip at the 9 o'clock position is narrower than at the 3 o'clock position.

If you ever get a chance to see a '78 Pace Car close up, you'll be able to see it. All Pace Cars had the 255/60's.

As Long as your suspension is at the stock height and nothing is bent or anything you can run 275's in the rear and 255's in the front without rubbing or needing any modification.

Unless you hit a downtown Dallas pothole.

I ran my fingers along the wheel lip, and it feels like the wheel wells have been trimmed!!!

I have 245's on my car, but they're 17" and mounted on a 9.5" wheel with 5" backspace. I rub a bit on the swaybar on the tight turns because of the backspace but the tires are only 25.6" tall so I feel I get away with more than I should. I think somebody tried to cut some of the inner fender out on my car back in the day...
