Default ZR-1 style wheels for my 81??????

I have dreams of painting my 81 silver and putting on silver ZR-1 style wheels. Knowing 17X9.5 are probably two big for the car, I"ve heard adapters are available to mount 84-87 Vette wheels on an 81 which I beleive are 16X8.5. My question is does anyone make a ZR-1 style wheel in a 16X8.5 size? I think it would be an awesome looking combination copying from the 96 Collector Edition.

Thanks in advance,

I believe someone else on the forum has put the 17x9.5 ZR1 wheels on their c3. I don't see why they wouldnt fit. I have 255x60R15 tires on my '80 (255/25.4=10 inches) and they don't rub one bit. you'd have to stick with 255 width tires i bet. I would also love to see these wheels on a c3 if anyone has pictures. . . I've thoght about doing it myself, and its getting time for some new tires anyways. . . what's another grand or so? :D

Actually, didn't the SS Camaro have a ZR1 looking rim in 16in. I remember seeing them in CHP. Not to expensive! Now putting on Z06 rims would be bad @ s s.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of Vette Brakes's adapter deal...anyway, there is an 81 somewhere in B.C up here in Canada that I see maybe once a year. He has the 17x9.5 ZR-1 style wheels from an actual Corvette, not repro's. I can't remember exactly but I think he uses a 2" spacer or so to correct the wheels 7.5" backspace or whatever the heck it is. Here a picture of the car...sorry, I had to take a picture of a picture cause I have no scanner.

Nice work Bob, That looks awesome. What software did you use? It looks totally real. Now I know I have to get those wheels. It looks better than I imagined.

Stingy 74, Thanks for the pic. Looking at the your picture the tires do not appear to stick out of the fenders at all. Did you happen to notice if they did?
And as far as the spacers performance is concerned, I'm not to worried about them. There is a guy in the local SCCA who Autocrosses a 79 that uses I believe 88 wheels that he said were 16X9.5 with Vette Brakes adapters without any trouble. He drives the car hard and is usually has very fast times.
I do worry about how they will look do to the fact you can see through the ZR-1 wheel so easily. I'm afraid the spacer may stick out like a sore thumb.

Thanks again,
Dennis

I think the SS Camaro convertables in 96 or 97 had 16"s the coupe had 17 Inch ZR-1 style wheels.

Dennisr,

I saw that car last in person about a year ago. I remember that the tires were 245-45-17 BFG G-Force KD's, the exact same as mine. The spacers he had were huge, like 2" or something, but they weren't really that noticeable unless you stuck your head right into the wheel. It would be nice if somebody (a machinist) could cut the centers out of those wheels and weld the proper backspace into them. But it's a cast wheel so I don't think it could be done nicely, if at all. The picture I posted was from an event I was at in Edmonton, Alberta. It was in a mall parking lot where the slalom was being held. As you can see, that particular car had alot of negetive camer set into it. I think that's one on the reasons that the wheels tucked in so well, atleast at the top. Either way I think they look and fit well.

You are correct sir. My friend has a 98 SS and they are the same rims as a ZR1 just not as wide. His car is white and I have been trying to get him to buy some Grand Sport black rims. I think that would look great on his white car. There are repo's and new ZR1 style rims in all the catalogs. I am sure it can be done.
When you do it I want pictures.

So, to go with the Camaro SS wheels (F1's... ZR-1 style) what would be needed to fit and what size tires would fit? This just looks increadible!!

- 4 F1 Wheels
- 4 Tires - What size?
- 4 Spackers - What size?

Anyone have this information?

SLP (www.slponline.com) made the Camaro SS and has wheels and tires for sale on their site. Usually pretty good prices. I've ordered a few things from them for my Z28 and been happy with them.
Yup above. Convertibles got 16" and coupes got the 17"s. I believe that they are 16x8 as that's the size of the stock wheels on my 95 Z28 convertible. I'm not sure about backspacing.

HTH.
