All With Mgw Shifters Please Read Asap>>>>
i would like to request that the numerous threads with questions about the MGW shifters and their updates , revisions, models be consolidated to this thread as i am going to get VERY detailed and hope it answers all the questions and concerns....
first a time line summary...
<<<<<<MGW shifter released DEC. 2007>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
MGW released the first shifters in December of 2007. we offered 2 model shifters with a 25 percent throw reduction and a 30 percent throw reduction. this original shifter was designed to RE USE THE FACTORY PIVOT CUP. just like all other current after market shifters.
with this original design i would say that we had about a 80-90 percent success rate with the shifter rattle, noise, throw, feel etc. we still had the other 10-20 percent having some rattle issues mainly with the stock **** but also some with any ****.
IF YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE SHIFTERS THAT USES THE STOCK PIVOT CUP AND ARE HAPPY WITH IT THERE IS REALLY NO NEED AT ALL FOR ANY UPGRADES!!!
<<<<<<<MGW DESIGNS ITS OWN CUSTOM PIVOT CUP JAN 2008>>>>
in an effort to eliminate the issues some cusotmers were having with the rattle, MGW decided one of the problems was the stock pivot cup was too sloppy and might be the main cause of the rattle. so we machined our own pivot cup and sent it out to those with issues. this probably fixed about half of problem shifters out there so we were getting close. still had a few people with some noise issues but now it looked like mainly 2008 and z06 cars.
IF YOU HAVE THE UPDATED PIVOT CUP AND IT FIXED YOUR ISSUES YOU DO NOT NEED ANY UPGRADES!!!
<<<<<<<MGW CHANGES CENTER SHAFT DESIGN EARLY FEB 2007>>>>>
still not satisfied that everybody was taken care of i decided to look at the oem design of the shifter and see what we could change. i found that the best way to eliminate rattle with the pivot cup was to eliminate it altogether. i came up with a design that uses a poly pivot ball that replaces the pivot cup. this seemed to work VERY well and cured just about everybody's problem. so we started shipping shifters out like crazy
then about 3 weeks later we had one guy in california racing his z06 pop the pivot ball up onto the center shaft step. this was caused by 2 things.
1. the poly material can withstand temps up to 220 degrees but it must either get a bit hotter in the tranny tunnel or the poly just softened up enough to slide up the shaft.
2. the shoulder behind the pivot ball was not large enough and this allowed the ball to stretch up and onto it.
i could not live with this so i immediately redesigned the center shaft with a flange on it and also contacted dupont to pour a high temp resin polyurethane for us. i remade all the center shafts and started mailing them out last week. all of them will be shipped out by weeks end.
SO THAT IN A NUTSHELL IS WHAT HAS TRANSPIRED. IN RETORSEPCT I REALLY SHOULD NOT HAVE RELEASED THIS SHIFTER SO SOON BUT I WAS GETTING SO MANY REQUESTS TO GET IT GOING I GOT IMPATIENT AND STARTED SELLING THEM. I USUALLY TAKE ABOUT 3-4 MONTHS TO DUE EXTENSIVE TESTING AND I AM CONFIDENT THAT I WOULD HAVE COME THRU ALL THIS ON MY OWN AND NOT HAD TO INCONVENIENCE YOU GUYS WITH THESE UPGRADES. I THANK YOU FOR WORKING WITH US AND I THINK THE SHIFTER IS AS GOOD AS IT CAN GET AT THIS POINT.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE LATEST UPGRADED SHAFT SHOWN ON THE FAR RIGHT IN THE PIC POSTED AND STILL HAVE NOISE ISSUES PLEASE CALL ME AT 706-793-1770 AS WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOME CUSOTM SPECIAL DIAMATER PIVOT ***** DESIGNED FOR STUBBORN TRANNIES THAT STILL VIBRATE.
SO IN CONCLUSION IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE SHIFTER WITH THE CENTER SHAFT DESIGN IN THE MIDDLE IN THE PIC AND ARE HAPPY WITH IT THEN THERE IS ZERO REASON TO UPGRADE. IF YOU HAVE THE CENTER SHAFT SHOWN IN THE MIDDLE WITH THE AMBER COLORED PIVOT BALL YOU NEED TO CHANGE IT OUT AS IT COULD POSSIBLY FAIL.

George,
We all remember the screaming and whining for you to offer your new shifter as early as possible. You have done the best job possible under the circumstances, and will undoutdedly receive numerous future orders from forum members who are familiar with your engineering and customer relations excellence - including mine.
Regards

I love my Shifter and it is no hassle to me to install the new shaft (should be here today). You have given such good customer service, you have won my business for life. Customer service is number 1 in my book.

I got the new shaft today, I have not yet installed the shifter. I am assuming that the shaft can be changed with shifter out of the car? I only ask because the instructions you sent emphasize not removing entire assembly from car.
Cant wait to try shifter, customer service has been unbelievable!
THANK YOU!

you can do it either way just easier to do it with the shifter in the car if it is already installed.

A buddy of mine had his poly material melt or become soft at a very hard track day and then it got stuck rendering the MGW shifter ineffective. How you handled the situation with him was EXTREMELY impressive and I give you two thumbs up for stellar customer service. You are doing all the right things to make a name out of gold for yourself in the Corvette community.

Question: are all new shafts 30% models?
Thanks George.
Your explanation makes perfect sense. I'm am one of the unlucky few that has a rattling stock **** using your original shaft design and your machined cup. My new shaft will be here Friday and I'll install ASAP and let you know if it completely fixed my rattle.
Thanks again for the FABULOUS customer service.
FWIW - The shifter is so awesome, I could live with a little rattle on WOT.
And one more thing: Does this mean all of the new shafts will be a 30% throw reduction?

George, you have been a great vendor and businessman to work with and many other automotive vendors as well as just typical business owners in general, should take note of the quality of service you provide.
THANK YOU!!

George,
I have one of the first shifters offered to forum members Dec. 07. I have a 05 and the shifter works GREAT. No vibrations, No buzz. Just perfect.

I've had my MGW shifter in my 2006 C6 for a week and still cannot believe how much better it is than stock.
For the price, it feels like I stole it. George, I hope you are making money doing this because business people that care about their customers as much as you do are exceptional.
