Default What do you guys think of this engine

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...item=598631275

I live near this guy, so I've talked to him several times via email. he originally wanted $1600, I offered him $1400, and he is seriously considering it. Is this worth $1400. It seems to be a good deal. I've been talking to him for a while about it, and playing around with prices with him, but I think if he'll take $1400, I'll buy it. Is it a good engine, it seems like a really good deal for a reallly good engine. I know the bidding is closed, but I've maintained contact via email with the guy, and it sounds like the high bidder bailed on him anyway.

If you trust the person it doesn't sound like a bad deal...

Sounds like a good deal to me.Be aware it probably won't fit under a stock hood without some sort of drop-base air cleaner.

Sounds like a great deal. Only thing I would advise on the Edelbrock Performer RPM cam. WAY to much cam. I had one and hated it. I have also spoken to several people who have owned them and replaced them. Very rough idle, wont hardly run under 3K you should consider swapping it for a COMP cams something with less duration 250-270 range. Let us know if you get it.

Are you kidding?? Even if the bottom end was trashed, the bolt-on parts (heads, intake, carb, rockers, distributor, fuel pump, etc.) are worth more than that.

Since you will know where he lives, its unlikely that he will screw you with a bogus motor. Go & check it out. Turn it over by hand (with & without sparkplugs) to see if it feels like it has decent compression (w/plugs) and turns freely (w/o plugs). Maybe he'll even let you pop off the oil pan. That way you can get a visual on the crank & rods and partial of the cylinders.

Its a great deal IMHO if everything is OK.

Mark

I would get it... :D
its almost exactly the build I put in mine........a steal at that price.
you could part it out and make more than that easily...

also......the combo is strong as hell when used properly...lots of people dont get the complete package....(I.E: heads, cam, intake) and have problems with them separately....cause they try to match the cam with different heads and intakes, and vice-versa...resulting in lots of issues... :jester

my web has the specs and desktop dyno of my combo..

Ask the guy if there is anything wrong with it , for the money the parts alone are probably worth it if there's nothing wrong with it then it's a steal.

I have a feeling your gonna need to tear it down and you don't want to have to
put it in a take it back out again if there is a real problem somewhere.

Agree with moterhead.400 horse engines are normally $4500.I'd tear it down and check all tolerances. The price of the gaskets are well worth the peace of mind.

I agree with Nastee, the heads alone are worth nearly that much......it sounds far too cheap to be true....john :chevy
