I have a 1980 vette that I want to run performance seats in, but to gain access to the rea compartment I'd like to add the 1982 rear opening glass. Can this be done? If so, what is needed?

My '79 had the conversion when I bought it. It appeared to be poorly done. It leaked and I had alot of trouble with it. I ended up replacing it with the correct stuff (I actually made money on that project when I sold the '82 stuff. :D) If you have the ability to do the swap right it might be nice, but it seems like an awful lot of work. You can't really get to the rear comparment that well with the window open anyway. Just my $0.02. Good luck if you decide to pursue the swap. :)

The aftermarket providers used to have a retro fit kit for this. It was the same installation as the opening hatch on the '82 Collector's Edition cars. Get the '82 AIM, go to the CE option, and study the production assembly illustrations. If memory serves, a modest amount of welding is required for the hinge brackets on the halo panel. The AIM will list the parts and part numbers you will need.
