No doubt Alwyn!! There have been a bunch of folks here where I work recently buy C5's. They fly their flag and flaunt that they have a new corvette! Woohoo..so what!! I say it takes more talent to BUILD a corvette than it takes to BUY one!! No offense to my C5 buddies or anything but, any shmuck with a halfway deep pocket and decent credit history can buy a C5! Lets see these yuppy, pansy freaks build a sweet C3 and make it turn heads at the same time! :boxing :smash:

I with you guys. I bought a new C5 Vert triple black 6 speed and enjoyed it for about a year in 99. Prompty sold it "repented fervently" and bought a 69 to get back to my roots. Couldnt be happier and the pride of building my own is much greater.

Briefly, some of my C-3 experiences:

1) Came out after paying for gas and two people were taking pictures of my car.
2) All the counter people at the local NAPA parts store came out to look at my '74 (at the same time!)
3) Got asked if my car could be used for a local television commercial
4) Two 16 year-old girls came up to me at the Sonic Drive-in and asked me if I'd take them for a ride (I'm 48!)

...........and this was all in just one week! There's really something about these Vettes!

At our locat Christmas parade this past weekend, the C3's seem to have received more attention than the C4's and 5's.

Sorry Rhys... :bb I didn't know and I don't mind if a yuppy, pansy freak builds a C3..at least you built it and have the talent and ambition to do so. I meant no disrespect. I see in your post that you happen to have the best of both worlds (C3 and C5) I am just targeting those who think they can somehow make there lives more meaningful and less shallow (allow they make it more shallow) by buying a new vette and then parading around like the emperor in new clothes. I'm sorry for the rant. I'm just old school. I've built just about every car I've ever owned and I appreciate craftsmanship and talent, thats all. :D

Point taken. You won't find many of the type you describe here on the forum though. Don't let it upset you. It is very easy to identify that type.

True Rhys..everyone on the forum are great people and I have the utmost respect for all of them. Only wis hI could meet more of them in person. One day I'll get down to Cameron Village to meet the fellas in the local vette club. Till then, I'll keep on waving (even at the C5'ers who don't know what it means). :D

Heck, I'd take pictures of your car even if you parked it besides Michelangelo's Moses... :D

Now, Rhys, 'fess up: that C5 may be a joy to drive and a heck of a ride, but the one that turns heads and gets all the attention is the Pace Car, isn't it? ;)

......Thanks for the compliments Alwyn, I like your cars too (grew up with XKE photos all over my room!). I don't take many long trips with this car (I know Atlanta isn't really all that far), but I promise to look you up if I get that way. Let me know of any "must see" Vette shows coming up this spring in the Big A and maybe I can come down for one of those.
Thanks again for you comments, and nice meeting you on the forum!
